Before you go too crazy with trying to source special transistors and decipher resistor and cap composition, you may simply want to take good note of the tone stack, particularly the values of those components. The Big Muff circuit's tone relies so heavily on the tone stack configuration, you can completely change the range of the pedal by just changing one capacitor. Also, check the tone potentiometer value with it out of circuit, if you can, to get an accurate reading. Apparently the Russian-made Big Muffs sometimes had odd pot values, that could be contributing to the sound you like out of this one.
