The octave on/off switch gives a whole new flavour of sounds. Really worthwhile adding this simple mod.  Thanks to Guitarmageddon and Jacob for their help with this.

Woah, I didn't know you could do that. Is there a thread on how to do this?

Guitarmaggedon and Jacob helped with this one so big thanks to them. To add an octave lift swich to the JMK flender, you simply need to add an on-off SPDT switch betweenthe connection between D2 and the base of Q4. To do this I socketed D2 but didn't push the leg closest to Q4 into the socket. Instead I soldered a wire to the empty socket to the centre pole on the SPDT. I then ran a wire from one of the outer poles and connected it to the 'dangling' leg of D2. Make sure you trim the exposed leg to avoid the possiblity of it shorting anything out.

There's probably a neater way to do this but this is what worked for me. Hope it helps.

Cheers
