Hi everyone,

On the enclosed Switchcraft stereo jacks, which is the ring and which is the tip? I've used the mono version successfully but haven't tried this type yet. I know which lug is the sleeve, but the other two look exactly the same and thus aren't easy to work out like on open jacks.

Thanks,

Bret

Do you have a multimeter with a continuity setting?

Sure do! Let me know the procedure and I'll be off and running...

I could tell you but I bet if you get a patch cable out you will figure it out pretty quick

That makes sense. Whichever one is the ring will only have continuity to ground if there is a cable plugged in, right?

sounds about right. Usually the lugs are on the opposite site of the actual hook-thingy. The ring is the inner one of the two obviously.
Easiest way is a continuity check with your DMM as mentioned by playpunk. Just contact the hook-thingy (please, someone tell me the english word for that.) and then probe the three lugs till your DMM beeps. that's the one for the ring :)

Thanks, Felix! I know what you mean, even if I am also not sure what the hook-thingy is called.

Actually though, I was wrong that the two non-ground lugs look the same. I inserted a patch cable per Andrew's suggestion and can see that the hook-thingies are contacting different parts of the jack. It's pretty clear which is which; I'll just do the test to confirm.

I need to learn how to read... I completely missed the "enclosed" part :-[
anyhow, maybe you can contact the ring "hook" inside and probe the outside lugs. good luck!

The tip will have continuity as will the sleeve
