(okay...there's a guitar in the equation somewhere in there obviously...)

I hope there are more Frisell fans here. I am always blown away by his playing and with how cool of a person he is, he definitely is one of the people I look up to. Inspired by his use of effects and the way he uses various techniques to paint collages of sound I've been entertaining this idea of performing on my own, without anybody's support (bandmates are so unreliable aren't they). Whenever I try and end up with mush of rubbish, I play this video of his to remind me that it is all possible and that I only need to try a bit harder:

Here's one of my first attempts:

Just pure unaltered performance with pedals, you hit record and start playing (although with this example I have recorded a loop previously, but I've played it as well throughout the performance), and hope for the best.
Here I used a DL4, subdecay spring theory for the spring reverb, EHX freeze and the micro POG.

Anybody else on the forum trying to do similar things?

Nice clip! 8)
I'm a long time fan of Frisell.
I first read about him in a guitar player magazine in the late 80's, and though it was probably a decade before I actually got my hands on a recording, I knew he sounded like something I'd really like. I wasn't disappointed, and, of course he's become very influential. :)
Hard pressed to pick my favourite album, maybe "Blues Dream"...but there are so many to choose from.
A friend of mine, Emma Franz, who's a terrific film maker, has been working on a documentary about him. Soon to be released. Made with Bill's support, it's funded by contributions through Indiegogo and nearing completion. I'm proud to be a contributor. There's some info HERE.

I love Bill, he's my favourite guitarist with no doubt!!

The clip is really cool (just remembered  I need to get a Super Ego...).

My gf loves Frisell too so we're going to Bourdeaux on November to see him play (it's going to be a hell of a travel, but I'm sure it'll worth it).

Gf's favourite Frisell's album: Disfarmer, I'm not decided yet...

I love Bill!!!! So much so, that I looked up Dale Bruning who was a teacher of Bill's while he was in Colorado. i took a few lessons from Dale and was probably his worst student ever. But it was really fun to talk to someone who knew Bill.

It's so fun to jump into the fire and think fast, and try to make the most of what's happening.
