I'm working on the Deadringer 2 pcb, and I am wondering why the cut pot is the plastic shaft one specified on the BOM. Why not just use a 50K metal shaft pot like the others?

Personal preference. It's pretty busy as is with the row of knobs above it, and because of the limitation on space the Cut knob would be close to the one above it. So, I went with the plastic shaft. You can use the metal shaft in that spot, too. The mounting pads are larger but it will work.

Was your intention to just run the plastic shaft through the box without a knob?

That's right, the plastic shafts do not use a knob or rather, they are the knob.
