Prepping copper clad for transfer

In the past I've used steel wool and acetone.  Is the steel wool neccesary for transfer.  In my mind a smooth surface would transfer better than a scuffed surface.

I just hit my copper with a quick wetsand with 600-1000 grit paper. Nothing to aggressive and just enough to clean off any oxidation.

The scuffing removes oxidation and the acetone removes oils and such?  Thanks.

Scotch Brite green pads work well for me. Then acetone before etching.

Yep. This is what I've been using. Works great.

i think the small scratches give the toner something to grip to. this is just my experience, but it's also true with a lot of materials and paint or adhesive. i always scratch mine up with copper wool and i just use magazine paper.
