Anyway, Kenny Wayne Shepherd uses a wireless system and many people love his tone (and he uses fuzzes and ods):

And, if you miss that "magical" relationship between the volume of the guitar and your fuzzes, you could try locating a pickup simulator before the buffer.

if I may ask. how are you switching the effects in and out of your chain? your wireless output will be low impedance so you have a buffer at the start of your chain. and most switchers have a decennt buffer built in. I run a rack setup and my buffered signal comes from the noise reduction unit first in line. I can bypass the buffer in my switcher without a problem. and the sends on my preamp are pretty hot so I  only use the one buffer. a detailed description  of your signal chain or a block diagram of how it's wired would help me to see any trouble areas in your build. I have been building rack rigs for local musicians locally for quite some time so if you need any help pm me and I'll see what i can do.
