hey guys, I started looking for a wah wah pedal and stoped by an article from Dunlop about true bypass. I know almost nothing about electronics and when I was reading about true bypass I thought that is really through an 3pdt switch( input and output connected).
here is the article..
lets the discussion beginnnnnn!

As far as my knowledge reaches, that article hits all the right spots concerning bypassing an effect in a very clear way, so props to Dunlop for that. The table at the end, where they describe what pedal is bypassed in what way, should be something that every fx maker should be obliged to put on their website, so you know what you are buying. Again, props to Dunlop!! One thing: what is the 'best' method of Bypass depends on how you plan to use it!!

thanks Paul, I totally agree with you that that fx producers should show clear that table information on their sites.

The article makes sense to me. One thing to note though is that the terms they use are specific to their marketing. Other manufacturers use similar terms or the same terms to mean different things. It is really nice that they are giving specific definitions to go with their marketing.

i would add that, concerning buffers, it's actually pretty hard to assemble a pedal board _without_ having some type of buffer already. for example every boss pedal acts as a buffer, and how common are they?

so, there is a good chance you already have a suitable buffer already in your collection. For example, any pedal with a Boss-style foot pedal (or similar, such as the ibanez-style switch) very likely has an always-on buffer. Most tuner pedals are or have the option of buffer-bypass. The buffer is far more effective at the beginning of the chair, however.

that's said, some people may prefer the sound without any real buffer. it's probably not really necessary for only a couple pedals. and it's never really needed if you're using active pickups.
