Build Reports / Re: 1988 West Coast Session Drive

Thanks for that info Marshall Arts, you've just proved what we all know deep inside - it's all in the fingers (not the equipment you use) but we still like to play with our little toys right?
Makes sense about the amp settings on your Line 6 though - Robben was using twins as backline a lot with the Zendrive (at one live gig I even saw him use two Super Reverbs in stereo), and kicking in just the Zendrive once in a while. What an awesome tone.
And I know the PTP has no big influence on the sound, but it looks so cool and vintage, and I have some parts for that laying around. Thanks for the info and the inspiration. So many great builders and inspiring threads here it's ridiculous. Thanks guys
Cheers

Wow, I came to see some amazing builds form you guys on this forum (as always), this one is ridiculously amazing, but when I saw the video (in the 2018 BOTY thread) and heard your playing dude? Wow!
I was about to make a Zendrive for the 10th time to try and nail that Robben Ford tone or at least come close, but you've changed my mind. I'm building the ROG Umble now PTP style.
You sir, not only have amazing creative building skills but also superb playing skills, and magic fingers!
What amp and guitar on that demo video if you don't mind me geeking out here?

No one?  :-\
I guess I'll try it (maybe not on the Serendipity but on something easier) these days, and post the results here.
Thanks anyway.
Lots of grate info on the forum.

Being a noob in this area I don't know all the laws involved in the strange behavior of our guitar signal so I'm wondering can something like this work? :-)
There are a lot of circuits where I would like to have the same overdrive but with two different gain settings.
And in a lot of those circuits when you turn the gain up you also have some volume boost.
I've searched the internet and couldn't find a wiring scheme for two pots on one switch so I drew this (the last row of the switch can be used for led).
So - can this work? Or can something like this be arranged on a 4pdt footswitch?
Thanks

Thanks everyone.
We tried it in a room through a sound card and on recording monitors, but the keyboard signal was up all the way and no problems. I just noticed that when you turn down the level knob it is like it's turned to 30% (you can't turn it down as much as I can on my guitar) but that's not an issue because he uses it pretty radically anyway. I also finally tried my Cave Dweller on gig levels and it has a his only on repeats  :-\ (I guess it's the pt2339 so I'll buy another one and try it. Awesome pedal!

Hey  :)
Thanks again for answering so quickly, we tried it in bedroom levels and it's fine but I don't know how it's going to behave on gig levels. So I guess I'll have to wait for a gig to find out. What other delays would be ok for this? Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I've made a Cave Dweller and I like it A LOT!!! With low subtle settings it can sound really expensive (which is what I use it for). The thing is - my keyboard player loves it too and I want to make him one (as a surprise birthday present). So my question would be - should I change the input impedance of the pedal? Is the keyboards lower output impedance going to make any problem or different pedal behavior?
Because he tried a Morley wah pedal and he gets a really distorted sound out of it?
Thanks

Tried it loud and it sounds great, I think it was the j201.
Left the C3 out and the 6.8n cap across the volume pot (I use with my tele).
Thanks again for the info!

I pulled the J201 put the 2n5457 in and re-biased to get 9v on the drain, left the c3 out, and the cap on the volume pot (switchable), and I think it's much better (everything else being stock) but it's midnight here so I can't crank anything.
Posting the results tomorrow.
Thanks.

I will definitely try the cap across the volume pot (thanks for that), and before that the C2/R3 network.
Now that you explained it like that I think I didn't put it well in my first post.
Maybe my problem is not too much highs or mids (which is normal for this circuit) but loss of lows.
I definitely hear less bass frequencies. I do play a tube amp (2x6L6/2x12ax7 home made one), and a custom shop strat that has very nice bass response (best I've ever heard).
So maybe I need more bass to come out of the circuit (much more than pulling the c3 out)? :-\

Tech Help - Projects Page / Fatpants high cut mod?
April 12, 2013, 03:23:23 PM
A great forum and a lot of knowledge here! So here I go with my little problem.
I have made the fatpants v2 and it works, but through my strat I can hear too much high frequencies playing live. I've tried lowering R1 (no change), tried lowering C3 and now it's completely out of the circuit and still not good, I have 9v on the drain so bias is fine and all the parts are checked.
Now - I tried a cap across the R4 (stecykmi said it somewhere - thanks for this) and bingo!
But - I started from 500p and come up to 6.8n, 10n and 22n on a switch. My question (though maybe redundant) is - is something wrong with my circuit to need this much high freq attenuation, because I don't see anyone complaining that they have too much highs?
Or maybe my ears are laying to me?  ???
Thanks
:)
