Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Rangemaster not working

sorry guys, found the issue.
CV7112 is NPN, not PNP

Reversing polarity, and trying to make the pedal sound right now.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Rangemaster not working
January 29, 2014, 11:03:37 PM
I know that it's so simple that I should figure out by myself what's goin' on, but the pedal is not working and I can't see the problem.
When disengaged I can hear guitar, but if I press the footswitch no sound can be heard.
Rangemaster with madbean pcb of course.
Transistor is a CV7112 from smallbear, and I've used the resistors included: 4.3k on R2 and 56k on R1, R3 is the stock 470k.
I haven't used a switch to bypass C2, planning to add it later.
C1 is a 5n styroflex cap.
The red dot of transistor is close to the pot, it should be the emitter, but this transistor should be "symmetrical".
Voltage reading on each pin is the same, about -2,8v.

Thanks for your help.

Mods / Re: my Egodriver sounds too fizzy

I tried my Egodriver better in the last few weeks. And recently I had the chance to A/B it with an original OCD, don't know which version though.
Well, the Egodriver is an awesome pedal, much better than the original one.
Thanks madbean!

1% metal film here as well. It drives me crazy, I don't see the issue.
Tomorrow I'll send the pedal to a tech. I hope he can find what's going on.

I waited before replying to take the time to test it better.
You're right, the motorboating effect happens only with OD switch lifting diodes.

But now it doesn't work at all.
When you plug it, it works fine for a couple of seconds (both on and off), then it starts farting, until it seems a low quality fuzz wit dead battery, both on or off.
I've used a tantalum cap for C7, instead of a polarized one. That's the only thing I can think about.
ICs are correct, I bought them from Mouser.
I've tripled checked everything, and I don't see any mistake.

Thanks.

First of all let me say a big thank you to madbean for allowing us to build such an amazing pedal. It's been a while since the last time I got so impressed by a pedal, and I have a sunking on my pedalboard as well. Could I say it's much better than the original? I mean the gold one with a Centaur on it.
Anyway, completed mine yesterday, everything works and sounds really good, but:

1. I get it motorboating if I set both gain and volume past 3 o'clock. I don't need those settings, I'm using volume at 9 and gain at 10 or so, but I don't understand why it reacts like that.

2. there's a strange noise, like a broken speaker. It's not a continuous noise, it appears just when you play, but it's not something "connected to the sound". I mean, it's not a fuzzy tone related to notes I'm playing. It's the only pedal I get this noise from.

What could I check?

Thanks.

 ;D LOL

what does it mean? What could be done better?

Thanks, so basically it should be like the two layout below.

they're NOT verified

Are they ok?

I'm sorry for asking this, I've searched a lot before starting a new post.
Do you have a layout for testing pedals before boxing them?
I know there are threads about building a test box, but I saw a layout with no footswitch involved, just for initial testing.
Can you link it?

Many thanks, and sorry again for noob question

Thanks, I did what you suggest.
I do prefer the mosfet/diode setting, after A/Bing them with LEDs.
Anyway, the pedal still need some tweaking. I want more bass and a smoother clipping.

Hi,

no, I'm not. But if it isn't working, the pedal wouldn't sound well. Am I wrong?
I haven't bridged any pad. In the last version of the pcb should I? But I have soldered the extra two leds.
If the problem is a missing bridge, the switch should address that.

Thank for your support.

Mods / my Egodriver sounds too fizzy
September 07, 2013, 03:43:27 PM
 Hi, my first post here.
I'm from Italy, and I've built some Madbean projects enjoying the very good quality PCB.
Last I built is the Egodriver. Everything works, but I need to tweak it a little bit, I don't love its tone, it's fizzy.
I haven't used the clip switch. All caps are Panasonic, resistors are metal film 1%.
IC is a TL82CP. Transistors are 2N7000. Clipping diode is a 1N34A. As for D3 and D4 I've used a couple of 5mm red regular leds, but as I said I don't have the clip switch.
500kA for gain pot and 100kA for volume pot.
It sits next to a Joyo Ultimate Drive, which is supposed to be the same pedal.
The Joyo has much more gain, way too much for my needs, and that's why I changed the gain pot, I wanted something lower gainish. But it sounds smoother and rounder, and the top end isn't fuzzy as on mine.
I've tried my egodriver with three different amps and four guitars. The issue is always there, in the pedal.

What should I change? IC? Clipping diode?

The first mod will be adding the clip switch, but before doing an hole in an alredy built pedal I wanted to know if swapping something else could improve its tone.

Thanks.

Marco.
