Mods / Feedback Slam Mod on the Sea Urchin?
November 08, 2013, 07:40:07 PM
I've been looking at trying to incorporate the slam mod used on the echo base to give me that fat self oscillation on my sea urchin at the touch of a momentary contact switch, but so far all of my attempts have come up short. The echo base uses a 20K resistor above the feedback pot that they put the switch across for the mod, but that isn't on the sea urchin schematic. Any idea how I would incorporate thid mod into my urchin?

Open Discussion / Interesting results from delay builds
November 19, 2012, 09:46:23 PM
I just got my 2 new delays up and running. I chose a Cave Dweller II Dub Edition, and a Sea Urchin to see what I was actually looking for in a delay. I was impressed with both builds, as they had really different sounds. I had read so much about the Cave Dweller being dark that I was really suprised at how uncolored and transparent it was compared to the Sea Urchin. I love the adjustablility of the Sea Urchin, but I think the filitering colors the signal a bit much for my taste. I did notice the PT2399 noise at the longer delays, but I don't know that it bothered me much. They both have some wild self oscillation, and the slapback on both was superb. I'm going to spend a week or so running through a few mods one each one before I paint the enclosures and box them up for good.

I've been kicking around building an Echo Base, but I'm torn between pulling the trigger and waiting out the Zero Point Deluxe from Bean. For those who have built the Echo Base, how would you procede?

Great build! This one is on my TDL!

I've got a small lathe out in the shop ;D

Might have to play a bit with making a few of these!

Just got my relay board protos back yesterday, and was impressed as always. 10 days from eagle files to boards in hand.

I wish the government could be that efficient ;D

I've been playing with these for the last year, and they are amazing! The programming is way easier that regular C+, and I picked it up pretty quick for a hardware guy. You can find stripped down boards like the RBBB and the dorkboards that will give ya big power and small size. The cool thing is that they run off of less than 40mA of 5VDC, so you can run them off a resistor nework with a standard 9V pedal with no problems.

The coolest thing is the stripped down boards are cheap ($12 for the kit through Wulfden), can be programmed over and over again, and recycled from project to project!

P.S. - If a guy wanted to build the controller can be used with it's internal clock instead of using s crystal and a pair of caps if a guy was trying to cut down on his parts count. I'm breadboarding a arduino circuit right now that uses an 8 pin ATTiny microprocessor that would make a 741 look big.

OSH park boards are the bees knees! I just got my first order through, and the turn around time on them was way shorter than I expected. It's also nice that Sunstone is local ;D

Thanks guys! I've been biteen by the delay bug and have started messing around with different circuits, but Wampler's pedal is just flat out cool! If I wasn't so stuck in the DIY I'd buy one just to tear it apart an see how it ticks ;D

Brian's concept on the use of the vactrol is really cool. I'd love to implememnt this into another design and play with it, but it seems to be a very closely guarded secret on the forums. I'm all for a guy using a new and innovative approach to make a little money, but it sure can be frustrating to try to figure out how he skinned the cat ;D

ANy chance someone with a good idea of how this is done could post a sample snippet just to explain the theory behind it?
