hey guys,

just finished populating my Aquaboy DX board and it worked right away. Had to rebias a tad to get right of some distortion I was having in the repeats.

I'm running it with MN3008s with MN3101 and NE571@ 12V regulated but I need to populate a RoadRage board to run it at 15V.
I have an additional pair of MN3008s which I will later use cascaded with first pair to double the delay.

I have 2 questions thought.

I was unable to get rid of all of the distortion during the biasing with Bias 1 and Bias 2. Will it help running it @15v or do I have to look somewhere else ?

I was out of 220uf electrolytics so it subbed it with 470uf. That won't be a problem right ?

I might have some troubles with the modulation section as one of the wave form causes a weird pitch shifting thing but I need to debug it on my own before bothering you guys.

Thanks !

hey,

If you do another batch, I'd want in. I'll be starting to work on my aquaboy deluxe pretty soon since I just received the 4 MN3008s from smallbear.

Oh well, I knew those voltages were kinda low. I eventually found my problem .. bad trimmer.
Replaced with a fresh one and voila. Works superbly. Time to box it and call it a day.

Cheers.

Hi, nice to see that you got yours to work.

Did you get a chance to get your voltages with a fresh 9V ?
I"m having an issue with my smoothie and I'd like to get a reference point.

Thanks

Wow this looks amazing.

One question thought, how to you get the white in your transparent waterside decals ??
I have used transparent stickers and waterslide decals but all of the white I attempt to print come out transparent ...

Anyhow, Kudos to you sir !!

Cheers

Well I build a test rig with crocodile clips I use to test all of my builds before a box 'em.
I guess that's that 20th build or something I use this test build.
I provided a link to the pictures in my first post.

Hi guys, I'm have been on a baby boards spree lately. I build a great sounding Bloviator II and an Afterlife.

I have an issue with the Smoothie I'm building. Noting comes out of it.

I'm using matched 2n5952 I got from Das Musikding. I installed them properly.

Here are my readings:
9V : 8.98
IC1 : 1=1.383 2=1.211 3=0.971 4=0 5=0.858 6=1.383 7=1.378 8=8.98
IC2 : 1=1.375 2=1.377 3=0.858 4=0 5=4.52-4.80(oscillate) 6=4.52-4.80(oscillate) 7=3.93-5.38(oscillate)  8=8.98
Q1 : G = 1.374 S = 0.858 D=0,858
Q2 : G = 1.374 S = 0.858 D=0.858

Did the usual checking, part values, soldering (reflowed all joints).
Tried to audio probe the thing. I get sound up until pin 3 of IC1 but the nothing on pin 1 (I can hear the bass part of the signal faintly).

Some pictures of the board are available here :
https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A2532ODWYsAE4

I'm not sure what is wrong here...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That's a nice initiative. I was going use 4 MN3008 in an Aquaboy DX build using 2 vero daughterboards but pcbs would be much better.
If you're successful I'll love to get 2 of those :)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Afterlife & Vactrol
April 01, 2013, 07:54:29 PM
Hi guys,

Quick question about Vactrols for the Afterlife project.
I can't source the VTL5C3 anywhere around me.
However, I could find either VTL5C1, VTL5C2, VTL5C4, VTL5C9 or VTL5C10.

Which one would sound best for this project ?

Thanks.

I'm assuming you meant to say that you don't have a solution yet. :(

Tech Help - Projects Page / Collosalus Build
October 25, 2012, 05:37:26 PM
Hi guys,

I'm just finished populating my Collosalus board and fired it up.

As expected, it doesn't work properly.

Bypass works properly.
The effect seems to be working properly, I hear the guitar signal being sweeped but there's a high pitch hiss sweeping too, just like when tuning the radio.

The effect is powered with an Ibanez 9v.

Trimmers around noon.

There are my IC voltages, some are off compared to the samples in the build instructions but I'm not sure why, I'm hoping you guys can help me find it out.

Thanks for the advice.

It turned out to be a Tone Pot solder issue.
I also realized that my DC plug was NOT isolated which is obviously an issue with negative pin.
Besides that, the build works great.

Cheers to you all

Hi guys,

I just mounted everything on the enclosure and I have a weird issue.

Out of the enclosure, the pedal works just fine but when monted in, I loose most of the treble and I can't figure out what I did.

I noticed that that happens when I touch the pot enclosure with my finger also and since they are mounted to the enclosure I'm guessing that might be the cause of the problem.

Any idea how to fix that?

Thanks

Ah, well I guess I'll socket 1M and try different values.

Thanks a lot again for your help. I'll send pictures of my final build once the painting is done.

Cheers to you guys.

Thank you guys.
I double checked and indeed I had it backwards. The problem happens exactly as you described, when none of the diodes are clipping.
I might try lowering 1M to see what happens. I agree I'm not likely to push the gain while none of the diodes are clipping but I wouldn't want that motorboat thing to happen during a gig :)

The good news is, my first build worked right away :) pretty neat. I'm just waiting for my drill bits to arrive and I'll box that baby.

Thanks again for providing this project and for your support, I'm already considering what my next project will be.

However, I didn't get that whole business about putting the diodes symmetrically or asymmetrically. I just followed the schematics. Could you guys shed some light over this ?

Thanks.
