I had not seen those Gorva enclosures yet, which are pretty cool looking. Just a little pricey and very few color options. The Fuse isn't really necessary, was added in more as an option to choose various circuit protection circuitry schemes. It's in series first after the dc connector, then a protection diode 1N4001/4007 (parallel method), then a small series resistance. Having all these components on the board let me choose between any setup really. Which for this circuit, really all will be fine. But you could simply just throw in a series reverse protection diode 1N5817 in that F1 fuse spot and call it a day, or if you want the series Fuse and 1N4001, here's a mouser part number that'll work... 652-MF-RM016/240-0 . I just didn't have any on hand at the time so jumpered the fuse and just went with the protection diode. Maybe I accidentally left F1 off the BOM/Build Guide. I'll check that.

Thanks. Agreed this should be the default layout or something close to for all KOT, definitely why I wanted to make PCBs for these. I have access to CNC machining and laser engraving for these enclosures, hence the graphics as well. Also, I loved those Cherry Violet Sparkle 1590BB enclosures they had at Mammoth electronics but haven't found an equivalently affordable alternative source ever since they closed. If anyone has a lead I would be more tempted to make them to go with the PCBs. I know pedal parts plus has something equivalent but does a minimum qty order, maybe I'll front that cost if there's more interest for machined and engraved enclosures with the PCBs. Anyway, cheers.

Finished some custom KOT clones I was asked to build for a few people, so I re-designed a PCB layout for these that places all the internal controls including the Boost/OD/Distortion mode Diode switches, and the presence pots on the outside of the enclosure for easy access. Since I built enough of these to order a short run of PCBs, I've got extras and the build guide docs/BOM to go with building them if anyone's interested. I definitely get why guitarists love this pedal after building several of this circuit. Link and some build photos below...

The relays are for controlling the signal routing of the Pre/Post switch for the Clean Boost circuit. That toggle switch simply acts as a control voltage switch to turn on the signal relays which route the boost in the circuit. Thanks for all the comments/questions!

I've recently finished designing the PCB for a diy kit version of this pedal I make called the Eat the Rich distortion device. Here's some photos of the finished build. I purposefully designed the pcbs and wiring to be as straightforward and clean/easy as possible for this somewhat larger circuit/build. If anyone's interested in building one, I sell the kit with pcb, drilled+engraved enclosure and BOM/Build Guide included on my site. A preamp, overdrive, and distortion ("amp in a box") pedal based on the Sunn Concert Lead guitar amp. The preamp section with 3 band EQ is a direct clone of the silverface Sunn circuit dialed in to sound like a cranked amp. Switch the distortion in and turn up the 'distort' knob for massive Sunn distortion tones, and use the Boost switch and Boost potentiometer to control an additional on board 21 dB volume boost. A toggle switch allows you to place the boost either pre or post for boosting into the distortion (pre) getting even more crushing Sunn distortion tones or using after the distortion (post) as a clean volume boost for lead/solo playing. The boost can also be used independently of the preamp and distortion circuitry to access the clean boost for the rest of your signal path at any time.

Anybody got a good source for these? Been searching for a project and no luck yet. The clear plastic shaft 9mms that people use to illuminate the shaft with LED from underneath. Bueller? Bueller?

I've always wanted to try out acid etching for the enclosure graphics on a pedal but after acid etching several pcbs in my earlier years of DIY I'm pretty much over having to do that process, especially when it's much more precise, efficient, and even cheaper to use Cad software and get some PCBs professionally fabricated.

Have to show some love to the forum that's helped me get so deep into pedal building so I wanted to share more of my recent stuff here. This is my version of the Super-Fuzz circuit that I've made my own improvements on including.. no volume loss (+20 dB volume boost on tap), More usable mid scoop tone setting (changed the frequency center and less drastic of a scoop to not lose so much of your mids that it's muddy and unusable like the original), can cleanup with volume rolloff, built in a tiny 1590a pedal size with high quality neutrik jacks and aluminum knobs, and it's actually affordable.

the LED is from Banzai music, they make these conical molded LEDs that they call their Rocket LED, they look awesome on the right pedal.
