Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / A/B Bass Circuit
December 23, 2024, 09:20:09 PM
Hey everybody.
Merry Christmas.

It's been a while since I've done any projects.

I'm running into issues with a pickup selector circuit I want to build.

Here's the story:

I want a bass that has:

1.   A full Jazz pup set.

2.   A "P" pup

3.   A selector that chooses the output to be either Jazz or P pups.

4.   THEN!!! When I select P, I want a switch to choose between single output P (traditional) and splitting the outputs to a "stereo-like" setup. In that, the BEA strings are picked up by one half of the P pup, and the DG strings are picked up by the other half of the pup.

This way I can send the low strings to one amp and the high strings to another amp.

There shall also be tone an volume controls for the pickups in a traditional sense. For the Jazz pups there is a vol-vol-tone. For the P there is a Vol-tone, and then another tone for the split DG P pup. THere are a few dual gang pots in there for attempts knob reduction.

Man, does this even make any sense to anyone other than me?

Anyway.

Here's my circuit drawing.

And here's a picture of the "panel".

I don't even know if this circuit would work as it is intended to.

Can some of you wizards look at this and help me get where I'm going?

(I've been looking at this and messing with it for so long I'm even lost in it myself.)

Also, if there is an easier or already existing way of doing this, I"m down with that too.

General Questions / stereo/mono pickup split switch
October 19, 2023, 10:45:39 PM
Hey guys,

I've been looking at A/B/Y switching diagrams to do a thing I want with pickups, but they seem a step more complicated than I'm looking for.

In short here's what I want:

Neck PUP and bridge PUP routed through a switch going to a single output jack. (Jack A)
when the switch is flipped Neck stays going out Jack A, but bridge PUP re-routes out of Jack B.

How do I do that?

My full wiring is:
Each PUP has it's own volume and tone control.
There is only one swtich

Neck>N-vol>N-tone>switch1
Bridge>B-vol>B-tone>switch1

switch1>J1 and J2

switch pos 1 > Neck and Bridge to J1

switch pos 2 > Neck to J1  -and- Bridge to J2.

How do I wire this switch?

Open Discussion / Re: Anyone else get the Covid Vaccine?

I got my second dose last week.  No chills or fever.  Just a sore arm and a headache the day after.  The worst of it came the evening after, I was sluggish and a bit more wore out than usual. By the next morning I was fine.

I got the first round of Moderna by chance.

There were 16 people in my organization that are deemed mission critical.  But 6 of them refused the shot for whatever perosnnal reason.

The Director walked around the building and asked the first six people she saw "Do you want the vaccine?"
>>Yes.  Yes I do.

Nanobots and all, pump me full of lead.
It's not like the Army hasn't tested half a dozen things on me already anyway.

The day after my arm felt like somebody hit it with a hammer.  But that was all the side effect I felt.

About halfway down in this thread, DutchMF posted a switch diagram pdf.

It worked for me.
It switches the two circuits between series and parallel.

Now that I know his filing organization system I can extrapolate his wisdom and steal his skill.

Also, we haven't had a day of work less than 11 hours so far. Tomorrow is the last day.

My guitar has already taken the blood of three men.

Multnomah Falls and the book store both sound interesting.

I'm taking the workshop offered by MIchael Fox.

I'm in the Electric Guitar and Bass class.

From less than scratch is essentially from before the design.  We start with a blank piece of paper.  Design our guitar, then start making it from piles of raw material and a bag of shit from All Parts.

I'm in Portland this week learning how to build solid body guitars from less than scratch.

I'll have next Sunday and Monday to do stuff in the area.

Any recommendations?

I have a friend living with me for a while and she makes jewelry like we make pedals.  She asked if she could have some stuff from my stash.

This is the first few things she came up with just messing around.

Yeah.  Work.  I'm being put on special assignment to a particular three letter government agency that is headquartered on Fort Meade.

Calling all acquaintances, friends, friends of friend, nice people who are out there.

There is a high probability that I will be moving to the Baltimore-DC area in the next couple months.
I've never lived in this area before and I'm not sure what I'm getting into.

Is there anybody out there that can help me with this transition?
