Soapbox time:
Have you ever been on an airline that didn't have ANY barf bags? I was on one last night. And of course, they hit some really bad turbulence, the kind that has those wonderful free-fall drops mixed in. And yep, people started puking. But there were no bags anywhere. And since it's "company policy" that everybody (including flight attendants) have to stay where they are during turbulence, that means nobody could go to the bathroom, nobody could get any assistance, nobody could do anything about puke flying all over. By the time the plane landed, the aisles looked like a crime scene of spent napkins and piles of digested pretzels.
I'm wondering...who is the absolute bungling idiot that refused to put barf bags on the plane? What did they expect would happen when the puke starts flowing? Does somebody hate the poor souls who have to clean the planes? Yet another example of the crippling stupidity so prevalent in the world today.

Weird, some article popped up on my Firefox homepage today talking about where all the barf bags went.

I didn't have any desire to read it at the time but now ...

Quote from: madbean on April 12, 2024, 04:08:29 AMI'll get some more themes installed. I don't think the one we used before is compatible. But I can make the caramel one the default. Also, I'll get some of the old plug-ins reinstalled in a few days.

Change is hard, the old dark theme felt like home lol

Chocolate is very ... brown. Yup. Brown! Bean-like, even!

I am not complaining FTR, it was just kinda culture shock lol

Also: mother of god where's the dark mode option?

Click on username in upper left of top bar, select Look and Layout, click "CHANGE" next to Current Theme\Forum or Board Default, scroll down to "Dark Caramel", select "USE THIS THEME"

It wasn't an option at the time I posted that lol

Just socket the diodes and use your ears for the ones you like. Screw accuracy.
This. Sometimes you find oddball components with no markings, you put them in a circuit, and the clouds part with a ray of beautiful noise.
I agree and clouds part differently for every ones ears

It's mostly steam that escapes when my ears part.

Was it Midwayfair who did a subjective diode listening test with various diodes in the Klon.  I can't find the page unfortunately.

Yeah, and then people bought out the ones that I said I liked, and claimed that they were the most accurate, even though they demonstrably weren't even remotely accurate to the Fv of a typical germanium diode, in a pedal that most people never use as a distortion. Goddamn I hate every fucking thing about this stupid pedal. There's got to be some way of finding that post on the forum, unless I removed it out of spite.

Knowing the Fv of a diode is completely useless unless you know you're using the the same meter as the person who measured it. Just socket the diodes and use your ears for the ones you like. Screw accuracy.

When I disconected power to the circuit Vac 2 read 543 ohms.

That's definitely not normal, but to be really sure you'd want to desolder it from the circuit to measure. Be really careful and actually use a desolder pump or a solder wick, because you don't want to bend the legs any more than you absolutely must. After you do that, re-check the area around where the vactrol was soldered in. If you socketed the transistors, take out Q1 and make sure no sound passes in any switch position. If you get sound, then there's got to be a solder bridge most likely. But check the vactrol first.

Post pictures of the board and voltages if you're still stuck and you find out that the vactrol was fine.

Josh isn't around at all any more and I maybe only check the forum once a week so please be patient.

Dude's vocals are on point for being, what, 70?

Did not like the guitar solos though. They felt out of place and not in a prog-y way. Also some weird stuff going on with tonal changes in the last one, it sounds like the shreddy riff was a different take and mixed very differently.

Yikes! I missed this completely. I'm glad to hear that you're recovering. Brains go INSIDE the skull! INSIDE!

Hey Brian.

If people need to sub the JFET, the import thing is that the drain->source resistance is low (with no voltage applied at the gate) -- you want something between 200-400R ideally, but the J201 is all the way up at 1K, and if you look at the resistor it's in parallel with, you'll see that can only has a 2.7:1 ratio, whereas something around 300 would give you a 9:1. I tend to look for 350, IIRC. I sorted them a long time ago but it's been so long since I built one.

The subs here will all be lower gain things (3819) as well as near-subs like the 5952 and BF245, all accounting for pin orientation of course.
