I for one have placed many orders through Small Bear and Steve has always done me right. I am a very happy repeat customer. I do get most enclosures and 3PDTs from PPP, but when I need a few of these transistors, a couple of those caps, and a few of those photocells, I go straight to Small Bear.

2n3904? I think that's what Nick Greer uses in his Electra-based pedals.

The first Forrest Mims book is very good, even though he's a bit of a wingnut.

Yay! Weener Wah about to arrive. Now just waiting for the docs to be uploaded, so that I can see what it actually is I'll be building (pondering what that large circular thing on the pcb is for).

The inductor?

Do you have a diagram showing how to do the order switch? I found something on the Beavis Audio page, but it was for one that you use as a looper (send/receive jacks) to put 2 pedals into.

There is a diagram here that shows how to do this using a 3PDT. You'll need a 4PDT a la Beavis if you want to add an LED (or two).

I'm preparing to build a 2-in-1 which will have an Orange Squeezer and SHO clone in one housing. One external knob for each, plus a switch that will allow you to change the order of the effects. Driving the SHO really hard into the OS can be pretty cool. The huge volume boost gets compressed but slowly released, creating loooooong sustain. And running the OS into the SHO can be cool as well, probably a more useable everyday configuration.

(I was wondering the same thing and thought about the below...I am pretty sure it won't have the desired effect, though I'm not sure how to make it work.)

What if you had a pot where lug 3 was tied to the output from the board (the wet signal), lug 1 was tied to the input to the board (the dry signal) and the wiper connected to the output jack.

I think it would work at either extreme (with a high enough pot value) but in the middle you would be feeding the wet output back into the input of the board. How could you get the dry signal mixed into the output without also feeding the wet signal back into the input?

Hmm...

Thanks raulduke, I have tons of transistors but most fuzz faces that I've built & heard don't quite get teh Sunface sound. I did run the (socketed) NKT275s from my SF in one of my builds and it sounded identical to the SF. So I am just trying to get measurements so I can see if I can find some in my stash that are close & then audition them. Stupidly, I didn't measure mine while I had the pedal. I have several big batches of NOS PNP Ges that measure gains in the right ranges -- I have a feeling the NKTs Mike uses are leakier than let's say the TIs or RCAs I have.

Hi all,

I have to say, this is an awfully good sounding FF. I had one that I sold and am wishing I had taken some measurements before I sold it.

My question is: has anyone on here taken measurements of Q1 and Q2 from an AM Sunface? Best of all would be if you have gain and leakage measurements from an Atlas DCA. I have a lot of Ge PNPs in appropriate gain ranges, but before I audition them all on the breadboard, I'd like to pull some that measure close to the NKT275s that Mike uses.

thanks in advance,

John

Is there info on the Kingslayer anywhere? Beyond the obvious...

I'm guessing maybe it's switchable between buffered & TBP, which would be very cool...

thanks
