After building it, I found that R14 needs to be changed to 10 ohm. I used board mounted jacks and pot, but would suggest only board mounting either the jacks or the pot as it can be difficult to mount it in the case with both being board mounted.

Or enlighten me as to what the benefit of a 14mm is over a 16mm?

The 14mm clear shaft pots are lit up with an LED that is board mounted. I have a bunch of these if you want one. Looks like it takes a 500kb. I got them in a group buy here a long time ago, but have only used a few.

My first Hakko tip lasted 2 years of daily use and abuse building amplifiers and doing repairs and an additional 2 years of occasional use. The replacement tip is still going strong after 2 years of occasional use. The Hakko 936 replaced my Weller hobby solder pencil after going through a tip a month with the Weller. I use a pro Weller station at work and have no complaints, but I like the Hakko better.
