Tech Help - Projects Page / 2013 Kraken lost it's quackin
November 19, 2020, 06:20:15 PM
So I built a Kraken, 2013 version some years ago and had a working pedal. It has been on the shelf for a couple years and now as I try it it does not want to work. The hi lo switch works and there is an effect on the signal just no quack. I am getting power. I checked for cold solder joints, reflowed a couple just in case, swapped ICs with others from my stash and nothing. Can someone tell me where the filter occurs and voltages for ICs and transistors?

My SWAW gets some real interesting and almost to synth sounds with my triangle muff (grunt box). Order changes things lots, you will want to put in an order flipper no matter what you pair it with.

Furman are the folks, I believe you are in the UK so try http://www.furmansound.com/product.php?div=03&id=P-1400ARE. These are not cheap, but should solve your problem.

The two part works really well. I have used it a bunch of times, it sands well and holds up great. You are supposed to be able to drill it but I have not done so.

I seem to have Fuzz Face problems. I have a Stein Fuzz from a group buy that does not seem to work with a road rage, without a road rage and a battery or any way. I also built an Eric Johnson FF on vero that I can't get to sound right. Add to that a couple fails at Si Fuzz Faces. They just don't like me.

At least one of the 47n (I think that size) had goo coming out of it so I replace all of them and a few others that looked suspicious.

I had the same problem with mine. Worked sort of, sounded like a fuzz and not in a good way. Replaced all the electros and some of the other caps that had seem to have leaked and it now works fine.

In the pro audio world these guys get real good reviews for sound quality. The other player that is talked well of is http://www.fivefishstudios.com/ . I have not build either, I have just heard good things about them both.

Open Discussion / Re: Speaker Re-Cone: Yeah or Nay?

As above, re-coning is very common and if the tech is good you will never hear the difference. Most of the time it is cheaper to re-cone if it is a higher end speaker, if the speakers are something really cheap sometimes buying new is the way to go because finding the right kit can be a PITA.

I use 57s a lot, meets most every rider out there. That being said Sennheiser MD421 is great for heavy sounding styles, or most anything really has a bunch of low end. Beyer M88 I love for jazz players and their Polytones and other "cleaner" amps. Lately I have jumped on the condenser band wagon and have had good results with a Shure KSM27, now the SM27. I wouldn't use it on a Marshall stack dimed, but for stand As for the Fathead, I have seen people use it live, you just have to be careful where you place it as it is a figure 8 pattern. Out of curiosity what don't you like about a 57? A bit of movement or changing the orientation of the mic can solve many problems. The biggest thing I found is I start outside the dust cap and place it about 30° off axis. Gets rid of the brittle sound you often hear.

My 6 year old grand niece came and visited. She was playing by my parts table and now I can't find several things. I feel all of your pain.

Many of the screws we use are metric and available at your smaller hardware stores. Ace or True Value on the east coast often have fasteners in these white pull out drawers.
