This is the first time I have seen this post, and I must say it is fun to watch the evolution! It turned out to be a really nice looking build, congrats! A nice bonus getting a signature on it to boot  Can't wait to see some more!

Except the raainbow LED will go out after X amount of time/use. Is this a heat issue or something or just a flakey LED?
Can be reset by pulling power from pedal and then inserting back - bit like a PC reboot

the builder adds a toggle to switch between the two. i have some inquiries...
1) why are pedals one or the other?
2) whats the point of switching between them? or is it just to see the tonal difference/preference?
3) does anybody know offhand how to wire this toggle up? im sure i could figure it but my brain does twist a bit at the thought of this looking at the two wiring diagrams on the pdf. thanks.

1) builders preference I guess (no idea really)
2) I put the switch in after seeing another builder do it to one of their pedals. As I have a really awkward Fuzz pedal that does not like buffered pedals in front of it and I wanted to try out this pedal before it to see how it sounded in the chain.

To be honest I do have bit of a soft spot for the old Snarling Dogs pedals. I have one of the original line Fuzz Buzzes somewhere and even that has a dodgy switch on it 

Thanks, I guess it was more luck than judgement and a leap of faith. Although I learned something new. De-soldering with wix or a pump is a bit of a black art when trying to get stuff of a PCB.

This is the madbean take on the fOXX Tone Machine right? I need to build one of these, I love Tone Machines and my own is slowy dieing. I need to retire it and get a new one.

If you mean true bypass or buffer effect switching, then it will be the same as this - kind of depending on your original wiring.

Pretty much a year ago my Snarling Dogs Mold Spore kind of died. The wah still worked and both LEDs in the dogs eyes still lit up when activated, but the ring mod side would kill all sound coming out of the pedal.

It was a sad day as this is my fave fun mental pedal for just sheer noise making and lol moments.

When this happened I had never made myself a pedal, so in the in between timeframe I have made myself a Madbean Karate Shop and a Tremulus Lune clone, both of which worked!
So decided to to look into fixing the mold spore, so by asking around and reading a lot of info here, it would seem the max1044 IC would be the most likely culprit.
They are known to be a weak spot, so started looking for a suitable replacement but a more improved IC solution. No point in replacing a weak componet with the same weak item.

It was suggested to try a TC1044 as a replacement but when I eventually got around to look to buy one they were hard to get hold of without a major minimum buy threshold. Then after an outbust on twitter the chap from North Effects (UK builder) suggested an easily available IC L7660SCPA - it should be the same and work ok. (Mike from MadeByMike also mentioned a 7660 as a replacement ages ago when I asked him about troubleshooting/fixing it)

So last night, I had all the bits and set about with a de-solder pump, wix (first timer de soldered stuff from PCB) and got the max1044 off the board.
Soldered in a DIL socket, just in case and for future swaps if needed. Popped in the L7660SCPA and put it all back together.
Plugged it in and held my breath...

And it worked!!

This was around midnight, so couldn't really blast stuff out. Just used my kids tiny practice amp and some headphones to test. but all is good again 

Are rainbow LEDs more hassle than what they are worth gimmick wise?
Are they more fragile than your average straight forward single colour LED?

Only ask as I thought it would be a good idea to put in the Tremulus Lune I just built. It works fine for a while happily pulsing and flashing in time whilst changing colour. Then after a while it stops emitting. The effect still works fine, just nothing from the LED until power is completely disconnected and then reconnected.

Might just stick a redone in there and be done wit it.

TGD are great fun, don't forget that if you use it first before any other pedal it will react to your guitar controls as well, every instrument you plug in to these things will envoke new sounds.

Wow, really does look great, inside and out.

Yet more evolution, can't leave this one alone.

Added in a Buffer or no buffer (true bypass) toggle switch.
Supprised to find  I can actually hear a slight difference in tone between the two.
