Build Reports / Re: Ekano DIY Midi Controller
November 12, 2024, 09:38:39 PM
It sure did. then, i built probably half a dozen fuzzes this year and as no modeler can capture fuzz for bananas, seems i'll do just as much next year bc i need every each one of them.
That being said. i really recommand taking a look at https://mod.audio/ download the mod desktop app and try it on your pc, mac whatever it is that you use to mainly browse what's remaining of the web.

This thing is really fun.

Thanks for sharing.
I was just starting to investigate arduino based controller for a mod.audio raspberry Pi based modeler/multi pedal. I'll need 4 pots and 3 footswitches.  Yet another world to explore.

A zendrive, can't remember the name of the board.
Tonex, aida & nam models in the same zip.

By the way, you can do your own capture with Aida & Neural amp modeler, they both provide google colab notebooks.

Quote from: gordo on October 11, 2024, 11:14:08 PMThe weird part is that modulation effects and delay are out so it kinda gets limited to distortion.  I have the original Tonex capture box and got some cool caps of my Traynor TS25.  It's a cool tech and I enjoy playing stuff that people upload but haven't had a chance to record anything so it doesn't get used outside of the fun of auditioning other peeps gear.

I like the idea but haven't leaned into using it enough.

Still if you could do generic pedal captures, that would be pretty cool.  Not sure how that would work but a great idea.

You might look at the mod dwarf by mod audio. You get the "best" of both world, you can use aida or nam to capture your amp & pedals and then use programmed modulation and cab sim to get an all in one.
the brother in law with his challenged back traded his pedalboard for the dwarf, only kept the whammy.
Plus, as you can build pedalboard and snapshots within a pedalboard, he found himself focusing on his fingers rather than his feet.
Obviously, looking at his shoes, i found the entire thing a bit sad but to be fair, i did not feel that he sounded any different.

I'm still not completely satisified with my capture process. The reamp box level setup is not plug & play. The audio level output is a bit below the guitar level that i was using to test it. As it was humbuckers, i sort of decided not to correct it.
Neural amp modeler and AIDA are both free & opensource capture & modeler.

First capture is the MOAR which i dearly love and should definitely not be forgotten.

So i bought my way into the future to see if i like it there.
Also bc it was cheap enough.
Long story short: if i don't need to be near silent or travel in a pocket plane, it loses most of its interest.
It is still impressive for some pedal capture and helpful for the rehearsing guy tired of carrying his weight in gear.
If any interest, i'll post some clips of the real and captured pedal.

Which lead to a question: @madbean, any issue with capturing & sharing madbean pedals?

Hi,
Anyone tried to build this one or something like it:
https://www.treefallsound.com/

What is pretty impressive is the possibility offered by mod.audio to build full pedalboard visually in a web interface:

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Re: the why of wah

I would'nt. Maybe play it first to figure it out and then find another one to gut when you kind of know what you're chasing?

Quote from: jessenator on August 19, 2024, 04:09:24 AMK, I've never been a wah guy. Only had a considerable amount of time with whatever was programmed onto the POD via the simulated foot controller thingy, and it was awful. I know. Digital effect, but still, just wasn't ever my bag, but I'm thinking about it now.

Couple questions about it all.

1a- The potentiometer
So ICAR just means it's adjusted to compensate for not being able to mechanically (by extension, electronically) move through the total wiper range? Places like amplified parts have wah-centric pots from 100-200k, with 100k being log taper, the others being linear. A bit confused here.

1b- continued
If I've never been a wah guy, am I really going to "notice" the pot's behavior not being "the right way" if I somehow get the "wrong one?"

1c- continued
If I want to avoid the MiC product out there, what's a decent one that isn't going to cost upwards of half the cost of a decent wah shell kit? (I've seen >$20 ones and struggle to understand)

2- to avoid contention (based on what I've seen elsewhere on the web), I don't want to start a "what's better" war, but what's the general character differences between Fasel and non-F style inductors?

3- Weener or neener?

Hi Chris, i was hoping someone would enlighten us both. I can tell you abou
My first wah is a vox v847 that i bought in the 90's based on ones opinion that it was the "real" wah. I added a dunlop crybaby and then way later built a few project including madbean wah project (The one madbean project i did not like much).

I had to make a few fix to the vox to add a 9v dc input that mine did not have and a led bc you want to know when this thing is on. I changed the pot bc it was scratchy, i ordered the part in the "wah part" section of musikding without giving it any thoughts and did not notice anything different.
https://www.musikding.de/Blacktop-Deluxe-100k-ICAR_1

On the weener wah, the madbean project, i used a eye rock inductor supposedly wounded by hand during a full moon night under a rain of unicorn tears. Did not blow my mind but i would fault the builder first and i never cared enough to revisit it.

At the end of the day i prefer my vox wah to the dunlop if played side by side, i can't tell them apart as soon as volume, focus on playing or other musician are involved.
Most of the time i have to take it out of its cute mustard bag to plug it, so most of the time i don't bc i'm lazy. I was even thinking of buying this micro Mooer wah bc at least it can stay on a pedalboard that is not the size of Canada.

I would go for a used crybaby, there's ton of them. They're cheap, the shell will outlive you and you'll have something to experiment and destroy.

Quote from: madbean on August 24, 2024, 07:24:32 PMUnder the VFE section, I've added the option to purchase these individually:

TrueSoft 3.4 PCBs for the SPS projects
VFE v3SB PCB for the original projects
MVU for the v3SB

Quantity is small but I will likely be able to add in more soon.

Thanks Brian

Yes the VFE, that would be very helpful. I'll check the store.

I started two days ago the annual reset of my home office, home studio, guitar workshop, soldering station, entertainment space.

While you do that, do you also feel like setting the whole thing on fire and restart your life from scractch somewhere in south america?

That's just the pedal building thing, and there's stuff in there i did not know i had.

Am i the only one and if so how are you dividing your space for your different hobbies?
