thank you, I am going to try to replace it tomorrow.

I verified the transistors pinout is correct. Does the input cap have to be polarized? the 1uf and 470n caps i can find are not.

hello all, I swapped out the 10n cap and there was no change. Any other suggestions or ideas.

Thanks,
Mike

it says it is a .01uf which should be a 10nf, but i will replace it just in case there is an issue with it. I have a few more of them. Will let you know tomorrow.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Mangler NPN - Dark Sounding
December 24, 2012, 05:19:20 AM
Hello all,

I have just completed a Mangler build and all went pretty well except it sounds a little dark or like it has too much bass. i used the BC109c NPN transistors and ensured that the polarized parts have been rotated. I did catch my self when I put in the 2u2 cap and had to desolder, turn it around and solder it back in.

If i damaged the 2u2 cap could that cause the pedal to sound dark or bassy? everything else appears good.

Thanks,
Mike

General Questions / Cherry Bomb Cap question
November 16, 2012, 02:57:17 AM
I am getting ready to build a Cherry Bomb but wanted to get a little advice on some of the capacitors.

First I would like to know if it would make a difference to use the 25uf caps instead of the 22uf. I was able to find some of the 25's but would like to know if it would make a noticeable difference. Better or worse.

Second there is another schematic that looks to be a copy of the original that uses a 6.4uf instead of the 10uf for C5 and a 25uf instead of the 10uf in the C9 position. What would be the difference and is there any opinions on what would sound better or closer to the original.

Thanks,
Mike

General Questions / Cherry bomb Potentiometer Question
November 16, 2012, 02:46:31 AM
I am preparing to build a Cherry Bomb, but had a question about the gain pot. The original had 10k but this build substitutes  the 10k for a c1k. I understand the reason but my question is this. on the original with the 10k you could adjust the tone and volume (on ones with extra volume knob) but leave the gain below the 75% area and get a clean volume boost and tone control. If I use the c1k with the gain turned down is there still a clean area or does it start boosting and breaking up early on the dial?

Thanks,
Mike

Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: MudBunny 4n Cap question

I want to thank you both for the information and that is a terrific web site link. I also thank you for the offer to ship me one but I do not want to put you out. I really want to keep the original sound so I am going to order a couple, just in case I want to build another.

This is my third build so hopefully all goes well.

Thanks again,
Mike

Tech Help - Projects Page / MudBunny 4n Cap question
November 02, 2012, 11:58:49 PM
Hello,

I am building a Mudbunny violet rams head spec. I am unable to find the 4n cap and can not locate the 3.9n locally as well. Can i sub a 4.7n or a 3.3n? If i do will there be a lot of difference in the sound? which would be closer to the 4n sound?

Thanks,
Mike

I was able to spend some time today on the pedal. I have checked the values on the resisters and they all checked out. I also went back through my soldering and cleaned it up a bit. The wiring looks good as well. I also replaced the caps C2, C3 C5, C9, C10 and C12 since A coworker supplied them. I had an extra set of the transistors and replaced all three of those as well.

I now have a more normal volume output, but it will still not get much past unity when the pedal is turned all the way up. The bass knob has little to no effect and the sound is very high pitched. The volume, gain and treble knobs seem to be working.

The only other thing I can think of is one of the other caps is bad. Is there a good way to check the caps while they are on the board? what values from the components would be beneficial to supply to the group? Not sure what info I need to supply but will supply anything necessary. Feels like it is almost there.

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you both for you response. I will check everything out and post the results. Sorry I had not read the how to get tech help, but have now.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Cherrybomb very low volume
August 12, 2011, 03:52:49 AM
Hello,

I just completed a Cherrybomb build. All the knobs seem to work but I have to turn my amp up half way and the pedal volume all the way up to hear the pedal at all. I can adjusting the volume, treble, bass and gain seem to work. By pass works fine.

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this. This is my second build and I'm not sure where to start.

Thanks for your help.
Mike

Tech Help - Projects Page / Cherrybomb Cap question

The parts list calls for a 200pf Cap. Can I use a 220pf instead? Will this change the sound of the completed pedal?

Thanks
