It's completely normal. The different clipping diodes have different output levels. So, silicon diodes clip the most signal and therefore has the least output. LEDs do much less clipping so the output level is almost unchanged from having no clipping diodes at all.

Great.. Good to know. Thank you.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Greenbean Effect volume
March 15, 2023, 03:20:02 AM
Can anyone tell me how much of a drop in volume there should be between the normal sound and the effect. Each switch position, accept the middle of course, drops the volume by about 25%?

Is this normal?

I have posted here before, but I can not find the original post. The person I chatted with was going to test my hex file but I couldnt upload it at the time.

Anyway, I have a pickit2 that I have burned a 24cl32A eprom with. It states it was succesful and I verified it. However when I plug it into the HeadTrip 2 effects unit, which works with a pre burned chip, I get no effect???

Anyone willing to test this file for me or give me some guidance please? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i-XVObySdwFDcXLYIQAxoQpi8l6LVz1S/view?usp=sharing

Tech Help - Projects Page / Pickit 2 NO OS?
March 11, 2023, 10:04:54 PM
Hello, I was wondering if someone could assist please. I have a pickit2 clone. It was working fine, but then stopped being recognized by the usb. I found that to clear this, plug it in whilst holding the button down..

So it cleared it ok, I didn't realize it cleared the whole os as well. From my search, it states to reload from another pickit2?? Well I dont have one, or send it back for a replacement.  Surely there is another way to do this???

Any guidance would be appreciated.

OK, So i have found the files to download, BUT how do I download it? Everytime I select the file, it just shows me the HEX???

Sorry, I think i have sorted it out now....

I did swap it on the pcb. I did re flow it when the fault first appeared, but you may be correct. Perhaps the chip is not faulty. I will carefully try and solder it onto the new build and if it plays up on that as well, then I will know it was the chip.

I can now confirm that it is all working correctly. You were spot on, the FV1 at fault. Now to try and source another as I have another Headtrip2 board that I wanted to build up for a friend.

Thank you kindly again for all your guidance and patience.

Well I am making SOME progress. I happened to have a spare new FV1. I always try to buy 2 of the important things if budget allows. As you can't seem to buy the FV1's here in Australia, I bought two.

After soldering it in, I now get the correct output with affect on Pin 28, however still just standard (no effect) on the output. So I will have to investigate what I have done there.

Thank you kindly for your assistance. With pin 13 Grounded, Pin 28 is still silent. So I guess its the FV1 at fault?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Headtrip2 No effect

Hello, I am new to Madbeanpedas however I have been building kits for over 40 years, recently pedals. This, by no means makes me any good at troubleshooting. My issue is the Pedal has no effects when switched in. LED's, Switches, Pots, all do as they should. All voltages EXCEPT Pin 5 on the FV1 are good. Pin 5 reads mV? I have reflowed all solder joints, including FV1, I have tried a spare Eprom. I can hear static oscillating when effect is switched in. I assume this is the crystal. Before I go and try finding and replacing the FV1, is it possible it could be anything else? The circuit shows Pin 5 going nowhere and labeled clip??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
