Open Discussion / Re: Oh no... Not electrosmash
September 18, 2022, 03:24:54 PM
(even though it's back up)
I have a little personal knowledge re: Electrosmash...

TL;DR - It's Dead Jim. Don't bother. Scrape whatever info you want or need and move on.

I used to email the contact address annually when the security cert expired. I corresponded briefly with the site owner, who cited that deep personal issues led to the shop closure.

The shop has been 'temporarily' closed for over 2 years. The forums have spam and bitcoin schemes. Completely unmodded with a couple dedicated souls that reverse engineer the boards. Also, Electrosmash isn't quite dedicated to 'open source'. They retain and protect all trademarks as well as the Gerbers.

I don't expect the shop to ever open again. I have been waiting for over 2 years.
Quite sad. I wanted a Time Manipulator and a Pedal Pi.

General Questions / Looking for a Plexi OD project
September 17, 2022, 01:56:00 PM
I'm looking for a Plexi OD project - similar to the Anasounds High Voltage.
Universally the Anasounds pedal seems to be the 'go to' for the proper Plexi sound, without mudding the lowers or distortion.

Gift project for upcoming Xmas gift.

Yes- the recipient is a huge AC/DC fan.

Any suggestions on similar quality builds are welcome.

Thank you all for the detective work.
I'm gonna try this after a quick visit to smallbear/mouser.

You guys are amazing.

General Questions / Alternate Expression Pedals
September 04, 2022, 12:39:09 PM
I'm looking for projects making alternate expression pedals...
The Leems expression pedals or the Anasounds spinner are examples...

Any projects out there?

Here is the schematic of the boost circuit I found online

The boost circuit is attached to a volume pot iirc. The boost effect is available for 'drop-in' replacement from Rare Buzz effects - called the 'Krinklebine'

I find the connector between the 2 circuits interesting.

Open Discussion / Gibson Burstdriver 2017
August 21, 2022, 04:32:41 AM
I recently viewed a video featuring the 2017 Gibson Burstdriver circuit.
There are actually 2 circuits within the control cavity: 1) A boost module (which I believe I have the schematic) and 2) The overdrive module.

The overdrive module is extremely clearly labeled for assembly, with all but the cap values, and 3 pots being easily identified.

Does anyone have any information or resources regarding this 2017 board? It seems uncommon at best.

General Questions / Re: Inventory
February 27, 2022, 04:04:10 PM
Thanks all for the suggestions.
I have found 2 freeware programs for component organization that I will use as well. I have not evaluated them, so I will not rate them yet.
WinHeist and an un-named excel template. 40lbs may have been an understatement. Some of these chips were actually burned on site, and I have no idea what they are. I might need to hire someone to help me.

(this has nothing to do with Ukraine, btw)

General Questions / Inventory
February 26, 2022, 02:35:50 PM
I have recently recovered... a lot... of passive and other components from my (mis)adventures.
I am talking on the order of ~40 lbs of loose and (few) originally packaged components. The volume is of course, enormous.
Ages vary from 1950s to present. Simple to complex (resistors to DAC and other ICs).

How do I attempt to inventory this. Seriously. There are hundreds of thousands of components.
Any ideas?

A big thank-you for contributors here, from a noob.

My $.02:
-Tayda has the 'older' ESR tester. The ESR component tester is an open source project, community supported. Latest update is March 2021. Here is the ESR documentation: https://www.mikrocontroller.net/articles/AVR_Transistortester#Downloads_.28English.29
Most Chinese built ESRs offered do not give documentation.
Amazon tends to cycle product faster, may have a newer update with case, and save you a few bucks.
Caveat Emptor.
-There is a oscilloscope on Amazon for <$20, fully soldered. Noisy and has issues.
-There is an AWESOME diy digital open source oscilliscope for $850 (scopefun).

Open Discussion / Re: best place for tabs?

I got a UG Pro lifetime for $5. They offer that once a year. They have 'verified' tabs, if you believe it.
It's been p good. I'm ok with buying that, plus I got it cheap.

The OG tab database is still out there, btw. If you can find it.

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Re: Misc Questions
April 01, 2021, 04:29:34 PM
Thank you to all.
$2.54 at Love My Switches seems like a good deal. $.50 for proper soldering is a better deal than Amazon.
Some follow-ups:
-Should I use 'Bread-Buddies' (or 3PDT Bypass boards) for pots/jacks/switches?
-Any suggestions for my first couple builds? I am open to anything...

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / Misc Questions
March 30, 2021, 04:22:09 PM
Not to annoy everyone with Noob questions...

-Where should I hit for the lowest $$ on components? Mouser has crazy minimums (sometimes) or bad prices (sometimes), SmallBear seems out of stock a lot.
-Would you recommend any 3pdt switches on Amazon? $1.60 seems like a good deal.
-What about the 1/4" jacks on Amazon?
-I have some older components in a 'grab bin' from the 90s. Acceptable? Mostly resistors, but I found some Ge components and a trainload of IC chips.
-I want to use my old film/electrolytic caps- but none are low profile. What cases require low profile components?
-Should I breadboard first?

Sorry again, and thank you for the help/advice.

Great!
I will just use the MBP templates included in the builds.
I will see if my old drill press is working, and cross my fingers.

Thanks to all!

Hello,
I am soon starting on my first MBP builds, had a question about using pre-drilled enclosures.
-Do the MBP PCBs follow a standardized location for holes, like the VFE or PedalPCB 'Types'

If not- any advice for drilling?
I want to use Tayda powder coated boxes, but I have heard about chipping problems with the coating while drilling. Tayda (and others) offer pre-drilled coated boxes, but only in standardized knob/jack locations.

Thanks.
