I am working on a cd4049 (unbuffered) distortion. I'd like to get more sustain out if it so I thought it made sense to insert an always-on 'Really Cheap Compressor' circuit before the input of the 4049.
They both work fine separately but when the output of the compressor is routed to the input of the 4049, it seems there is some kind of interaction. There is a lot of motorboating/'putting' noise and the distortion is harsh.
Since the compressor uses LEDs into an LDR, I can see that the motorboating is getting into the input of the compressor. Don't know if a feedback loop has been created between the two circuits or what.
Anybody have any ideas?
