Nice work, that's a very clean build! I've got one of these on my bench as well. I'll finish it up one of these days...

As a longtime Fallout fan with over 2000 hours in New Vegas (and less but still significant time in FO3 and FO4), I'm both excited and nervous about this. Mostly I just hope that 1) it doesn't suck, and 2) they don't screw with the lore too much by trying to force the West Coast into the East Coast Bethesda Fallout mold.

Unfortunately this is probably the beginning of a larger trend- with most consumer electronics having long-since moved to surface-mount devices, there just isn't enough demand for through-hole parts for large manufacturers to justify continued production. We DIYers are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. I've noticed this happening with several chips as well, most notably the OPA2134, and I'd expect it to start affecting more and more parts over time.

Yeah I noticed that as well and I'm definitely gonna take them up on that in the future!. Definitely a cool move on their part, although I do hope they eventually offer it for all enclosure sizes (especially the 1590 BB2 and the 1590XX).

I've had good luck with JLCPCB so far, their turnaround is fairly quick and their pricing is hard to beat. The only real downside is paying the $20 or so for quick shipping from China, but even then it's still far cheaper than ordering from OSHPark.

General Questions / Aion Blueshift opamps
July 29, 2023, 12:37:10 PM
So I recently started on a second Aion Blueshift build and was in the process of drawing up a shopping list when I noticed that it calls for OPA2134s for the input buffer and pre and post filters, although the build docs do note that a TL072 will work fine (as will any other standard dual opamp most likely). Now the OPA2134 is certainly a fine opamp, but is it worth it here? The original Boss DC-2 definitely didn't use them and people seem to like them just fine, and I'd rather not spend $5-6 per chip when a sub-$1 part will work just as well. Is the lower noise floor and "clarity" that audiophiles rave about really worth an additional $8-10 in a guitar application? Interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.

I've been about halfway through an AlanP for about 2 years now. Looking forward to finishing it one day.

Would you happen to have the build docs handy? I got a set of his boards a few years ago and never got around to building it after the Dead End FX version came out, but now that I'm looking to optimize pedalboard space I'd kind of like to revisit it.

Found them!

Awesome, thank you so much! Now I just need to decide whether I'd rather go with a vertically or horizontally oriented 150xx to decide which version to build. Hell, maybe I'll just do both lol

Just to let everyone know, the Flanger? and Ring Stinger are out as of the 19th May
I had a small hand in these and can say they are an engineering marvel

Enjoy

Awesome! I built the Dead End FX version of the Flange With No Name and while I love the way it sounds it certainly is rather bulky in its 1590D enclosure and takes up a lot of real estate on my pedalboard so a smaller version is right up my alley. I'll certainly be checking them out!

It goes without saying that Tayda's drilling, powdercoating, and UV printing options were a game changer for the DIY pedal scene, and now that I've figured out Illustrator I have been taking full advantage of it. While I don't have many real complaints, I have noticed that quite a bit of powdercoat tends to end up on the inside of their enclosures, particularly around any drill holes, which poses a bit of an issue when it comes to establishing electrical connectivity at the input jack for shielding. How are you all getting around this? So far I've just been sanding/filing away the excess powdercoating around the input jack hole but it's kind of a tedious and time-consuming operation, especially when dealing with multiple enclosures at once. If any of you have discovered a better method I'd love to hear it!

Man, you have been knocking it out of the park with these New Vegas themed pedals! That thing looks amazing! I particularly love what you did with the mismatched/aged knobs, it really fits with the chaotic nature of the fiends. I can't wait to see what you cook up next!

...so does this mean we're gonna get pedals for Dead Money, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road too?

Seriously though, that thing looks amazing, and is a fitting tribute to one of the most badass mf'ers to ever walk the wastes. Well done!
