Build Reports / Upper Decker (Triple Wreck)
May 12, 2016, 10:43:37 PM

Painted a black enclosure with metallic acrylic paint, then poured Envirotex on it.

Obligatory gut shot.

Decided to add some vinyl letters since I haven't had much luck with paint pens.  Also haven't figured out a better way to get graphics on dark pedals.  If anyone has any secrets to share regarding this, I'd appreciate any help I can get!

I'd actually like to do the opposite. I want more higher frequencies.  Most of the rotation of the Cut pot is unusable because it's so muddy.  I want to brighten it up a bit.

It was a simple fix.  The Sweep pot was shorting against the gain pot, but only when the enclosure screws were tightened down.  Put some electrical tape between them and my issues disappeared.

Ok, I'll try that.  Thanks for the reply.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Slow Loris needs love
May 02, 2016, 04:15:33 PM
Finished the Slow Loris a couple weeks ago and it sounds pretty good except for a couple issues:

1.  With the Cut knob fully clockwise, I wish it had more highs.  With it even in the 12 o'clock position it's practically unusable because it sounds too muddy and bassy.
2.  The sweep knob doesn't seem to make any audible difference in tone.
3.  The volume could be a tad louder.

I read on the build document that leaving out R10 could solve my volume problem.  Going to try that.  And I also read that increasing C8 will bring the frequencies lower in the spectrum, so I'm assuming decreasing it will bring it up into the higher spectrum.  Does that sound like the fix I need for my tone problem?  Perhaps doing both of those things will magically fix my sweep knob.

Any advise will be appreciated.

That looks great man!

Thank you!  It sounds awesome, though initially I wished it had more gain.  That was before I put a compressor in front of it.  It sounds SOOO sweet.  Sounds good with a clean boost in front too.  Now it's a tie for my favorite distortion pedal that I own, next to my Rams Head Big Muff.

First post and it's a build report with a cool box of high gain goodness, awesome job!
I built one of these a few months back. Sounded pretty killer once I got the squeal under control.
I really like how you finished this one. It just looks mean and nasty!
Welcome, and keep the cool builds coming!

Thanks!  The finish was kind of a happy accident.  I initially wanted it to look similar to a Les Paul silverburst but I removed some of the paint by accident with some masking tape.  So I re-applied my paint layers, got impatient, and started using a heat gun to speed up the curing process.  The paint started bubbling up.  I decided I liked it, applied some clear coat, engraved it, and called it a day.
