Mods / Whammy WH-4 True Bypass Mod Fail / Win
April 17, 2016, 08:35:21 AM
After following the guide on http://www.rodrigoconstanzo.com/whammy-mod/ to mod my Whammy WH-4 for true bypass, i was getting a whole lotta noise when the effect was bypassed.

Figured it would be useful to share what was bad practice on my part and a little change to the bypass wiring i made to get it totally silent.

(See attachment.)

The first (and most important) problem was that i ran a long wire from a +5V point right at the voltage regulator output and soldered the current limiting resistor right at the LED's leg... Moving the resistor to the +5V regulator output and then a long wire to the LED made the noise go away. Secondly i altered the bypass wiring which made the switch-pop nearly non-existent. Instead of breaking the connection to ground for the LED when bypassing the effect, i took the other "end" of the switch and close (short) the LED to ground when bypassed...
