Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Retrograde Project

Those 100n capacitors are the only ones I could find on mouser. It looks like the panasonic capacitors are discontinued. Am I missing something? Or am I just out of luck for buying those on mouser?

Thanks.

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anybody here could do me a huge favor and check to make sure this (http://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=036035953b) Mouser order has all of the parts for the Retrograde (http://www.madbeanpedals.com/projects/Retrograde/docs/Retrograde_2014.pdf) project? I'm afraid that I might have some of the capacitor values wrong.

Thanks.

Hey everyone,

Can I use this (http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/transformer-for-tycho-octavia/) tranformer on the retrograde board? Thanks.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Band of Gypsys Fuzz?
January 18, 2015, 05:15:05 AM
Hey all,

I was looking at some Dunlop videos, and I saw the Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face. I really liked the sound, and they say that the way they made it is with an Octavia without the octave, just the fuzz. Do you guys think I'd be able to remove the octave circuit from the Mad Bean octavia board? And if so, how?

Thanks.

I'm surprised Tayda doesn't have the 25K, but this should be fine.....

Sweet, thanks again.

The lead spacing will be to big for the FF PCB. You should try to get Bourns 3362P (or clones).

Thanks man, I appreciate the help. Do you think http://www.taydaelectronics.com/potentiometer-variable-resistors/trimmers/6mm-top-adjustment/20k-ohm-ohm-trimpot-variable-resistor-6mm.html that would work? It appears that they don't have 25k trim pots, but they have 20k and 30k. Would either of those be an acceptable substitute?

Thanks.

Hi Ninane9.. The bias trim pot will adjust  how much voltage reaches your collector of the Silicon resistor (Q2 in this case). When you build this fun circuit you can see just how much the sound changes when you turn the bias trimpot.  The general goal will be to achieve close to 4.5 volts on the collector, but you may like the sound at a different voltage. These tips and more can be found on the build guide as Brian always lays out easy instructions to follow.  Hope this helps and let us know how it turns out. Steve.

Awesome, that really clears it up.

Thanks.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Bias Trim Pot?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at building the silicon Fuzz Face clone from madbean.

It says that I need a bias trim pot. Would https://tubedepot.com/products/trim-pot-for-bias-level work for that?

And also, what does it even do?

Thanks.

Mods / DS-1 Fuzz Mod
January 12, 2015, 04:24:08 AM
Hey everyone,
I'm thinking of modding my DS-1 with the following components:
C3 - .1uF
R13 - 1.5K
C8 - 2.2uF
R9 - Jumper
D4 and D5 - BAT41
C11 - .012uF
C12 - .033uF
Can anyone tell if this would give the DS-1 a fuzzy sound? I found it from some forum post, but it looks like it would work well.
And would the mylar film capacitors from Tayda work in the DS-1?
Thanks.
