Here's what I got out of this: "Hey, my name's Bruce and I live in Marble Falls."  MARBLE FREAKIN' FALLS!

Dude... next time I get a bit of time off, I'm coming to see you.  Then I'm gonna hit up my favorite vineyard, Spicewood.  God, I love Marble Falls.

LOL!  Sorry daleykd, the package came from Marble Falls.  I live in Salmon Arm, BC, Canada (https://www.hellobc.com/salmon-arm.aspx) where it's -14C/6.8F and there's 2 feet of snow.  We do have wineries, but right now it's all cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and praying for warmer weather.
So... damn... sad.

Thanks, Kyle! I do have couple suggestions here. You should try to modify the design with the toggle switch instead the DIP. I've figured out after comparing your schem with Catch22. Also, the drill template is missing on your build doc. You might want to put that as well for the future reference.
Never intended for it to use a toggle, that's for sure, so I'm very pleased that you were able to get it to work that way.

As for the build doc, I'll try to add a link to madbean's Baby Board Build Guide.  I don't want to steal his credit when it comes to the perfect 1590A drill template.

Thanks!

Dude, looks great and sounds great.  Trust me; I know how tight of a build this one is, but there's something rewarding about getting it in that 1590A!!

Thanks!

You have other options besides thermals.  You use shipstation connect to add other printers.
I use 4x6 thermals so it works out for me, but there may be an option for you.
They are fast on support response.  Very pleased with them so far.

I could just do domestics with PayPal like I have been and just do int'l with ShipStation.  The thermals have greatly reduced my shipping time because there's no more cutting paper and taping to packages.

One good thing about ShipStation is that on a slow month (less than 50 shipments) you can step down to the $9.95 plan, then when you exceed 50 shipments in a month it'll prompt you to upgrade back to standard and pro-rate the monthly fee.  No hassle, quick and easy.

I have it paired with WooCommerce and a Zebra ZP450 printer, shipments couldn't be easier.
This entices me as I can't think of a time I had 50 shipments in one month.  However, I use the DYMO LabelWriter 450 Turbo to print out of PayPal.  Kind of frustrating that ShipStation only supports 4" x 6" thermals.

Well I just dropped a PCB in the mail as a letter. Then I read this thread. Hope it gets through.
Let me know how this goes.

For so long, the lady at my USPS PO has been AWESOME.  She would let me pay the non-machinable surcharge and I never had an issue.  I wonder if that's the case anymore...

1. Print Invoice.
2. Tape PCB to invoice.
3. Put in regular envelope.
4. Red stamp that says "Non-Machinable."
5. Pay a LITTLE extra $$.  (What... like an extra butterfly stamp or something)
6. Customer happy.

How do people send gift cards now?

General Questions / Re: Phase 90 - I'm a n00b
July 29, 2017, 07:16:05 PM
I tried to reflow the FETs.  The first time I did, it totally changed where they turned on with the TRIMMER.  Then, I reflowed them again, and the position was back to about where it was, and the turn of the trimmer felt better.  Instead of microscopic turns, just minimal turns was affecting it.  However, it still just isn't very phaser-ish.

I'll try another set of MMBF5458 tomorrow or whenever.  I'm too frustrated because I don't even know where to begin.

Sounds about right, it's a tight space that it sounds right. It's my understanding smd are fairly close as well. Is it the script version or the block version?
Tight space is an understatement.  :)  There's a switch called SCRIPT that does script vs. block (I think).  Flipping it makes it so that it squeals at the "peaks" of the sweep.

General Questions / Phase 90 - I'm a n00b
July 29, 2017, 03:42:45 PM
I was blessed by someone and was given a beautiful 1590A Phase 90 PCB.  The Q2-Q5 FETs were SMD MMBF5458.  This is my first Phase 90.

I got it all soldered up and started trying to bias by ear, and there's only about a 0.0000000001 spot where I get much of a sweep.   I DO get a sweep, but it's not very intense like I'd expect.

I was told that I don't have to match the SMD JFETs because the tolerances are much tighter.

I also have a Rigol Digital O'Scope, but I have no idea how to use it to bias.  (I would LOVE it if someone had a tutorial on how to do this.)

Am I completely missing something here?  Maybe I really DO have to match the JFETs?  Maybe I just have to find a sweeter spot that's more like 0.000000000000000000001?

(I've had too many boards not work lately.  I hate being in a rut.)

Build Reports / Re: Up Down Daddy and other fun

Jimi,

Thanks for the business, man.  Well done.

To be completely transparent, the UDD is a pre-2015 LowRider/Pearl Octaver OC-07.  I wanted to make one that fits in a 1590B, and that's probably the most intense PCB I've designed and soldered.  Again, WELL DONE!

I guess MBP doesn't have the Engineer's Thumb anymore?  I'm going to start stocking them as soon as my next batch of PCBs comes in.

Why not convert to LM13700 for the 3080s?

Curious about the MN3007s myself.

Never used them, but they charge $21 for black soldermask.  seeed got rid of their upcharge on color.

The only caps I've used for SMD are the ones Tayda sells in 0805.  So, I'm interested in this, also.

General Questions / Re: Arduino help

Start with a non-Arduino schematic.

If you can design the schematic, then we'll plug the Arduino in to control the relays.
