I am building a Kingslayer which will go into a 1590B enclosure.  The standard oxblood pointer knobs (Davies 1400) like what SmallBear has are too large.  Does anyone make a smaller oxblood pointer knob?  If not, what good alternatives are there?  I plan to use a polished aluminum enclosure and want a look that is similar to the Klon.  Does anyone make oxblood/maroon knobs in other styles?

I'm surprised the 1400s are too large for your build. They're much smaller than what's on the real Klon (1470s). I use the 1470s on full sized klones and the 1400s on 1590BBs or smaller.

Sorry, the Smallbearelectronics oxblood knobs are 1470s not 1400's.  I have not been able to find oxblood 1400's.

Looks great!

What is your method for mounting your led's?

I am getting ready to place an order from Mouser and need a 12v zener diode for D6.  Will any 0.5 watt 12volt zener diode do?

Looking at:
TZX12D
1N5242B
1N6002B

Will these work?

This circuit uses (5) 1uF caps: C3, C10, C11, C12, C17.  According to the shopping list one of them should be a Tanatalum cap.  Which one?  Is there a way to tell by looking at the board?

It's kind of oxblood (maybe a little more brown)

Any idea what size these are?  Are all 1400 knobs >1 inch?

Thanks  ;D

Many of the Rat clones have a three way switch controlling these three modes:
1. Stock diodes
2. Diode lift (no diodes)
3. LED clippers

Does the Runt use mode 1?

Did you intentionally tweak the R1 and R2 values from those in the build document?  (I know Small Bear frequently provides resistors with their germanium transistors.)  The color codes on yours look like 43K and 2K7 to me.

I'm impressed- you have a good eye!  And you guessed right on the Small Bear supplied resistors.  They are in fact a 43K and a 2K7.  Can these resistors affect gain?  What else could cause diminished gain?

Thank you for the help, Dave.  Under magnification the pot wire joints at the board all look good.

How's the board solder joint on the yellow wire of the volume pot?

Opened up one of mine and measured, set the collector to -7.5 and get base -.96 and emitter -.84, using a Japanese Ge not the OC44 so my voltages may be totally irrelevant.

Here are the voltages for my OC44:
E  -0.535v
B  -0.665
C  -7.51

Can you describe what this does?

Thanks for the thoughts and info.  Before I dive into possible mods, let's first assess whether it is operating normally.  From what I recall, I cannot get passed unity gain even when the boost control is dimmed.  Is this normal?

Also, I do understand the principle of the pedal providing a distorted/clipped signal versus providing added gain which will drive the amp into clipping.

I have completed a build of the Madbean Rangemaster.  It sounds decent but I am surprised at the lack of gain/overdrive.  It sounds like a low gain overdrive pedal with boosted treble.  Is this normal?  How can I get more overdrive out of it?
