Hello guys. I just wanted to see if any of you has any information regarding this issue. Everything seems to work OK but the output volume of the effect (Egodriver V4 self etched PCB) is kind of low. Any idea where can I start troubleshooting for this?

When measuring voltage in one of these circuits, you're usually measuring in relation to ground.  Unless I'm measuring across a specific component, I clip my black lead to ground and use the red lead to probe the pins/leads.

Thank you. Other thing I found... at least for this circuit, 1N4148s sound better than red leds. =P

UPDATE: think I got is figured out. Before I was taking the readings with the positive tester probe connected to the +9v wire and then the negative tip to each IC pin. Then I realised the I should be measuring potencial difference and the better way to do that would be to put the negative tip on the ground of the circuit and then the positive tip to each IC pin.

Please confirm if my reasoning was correct.

Done! On my many rounds looking at the PCB copper side and solders, I had missed a defect in the etching of the PCB that created a gap where there was supposed to be a track. Bridged that with a little solder and now it's working as expected.

I'm still concerned about the pins 8 and 4... I am counting them correctly and 4 i connected to the ground plane on the PCB.

Hey guys, just finished mi OSP TS808 and there is no sound at all when engaged, just a low static noise.
It all seems to be okay, IC voltages are as follows:
1- 4.58
2- 4.58
3- 4.57
4- 8.89
5- 4.47
6- 4.86
7- 4.56
8- 0.20

I'm really baffled as to what might be happening. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

How about C10 on the 808 OSP project? Do I point the positive towards R15?

I have some 1uF films that I would freely send you if interested.  But it would take a while to get there....I'm in the US.

Multilayer ceramics also work nicely in that spot.

Josh

Thanks Josh. I'll try to get some alternative locally and then evaluate international options. I'll probably stock up a good amount if I order some from abroad.

Thank you very much for the replies!

The project is the OSP 808.

Hi guys! I'm pretty sure this has been asked before and I did perform a search but was unable to pinpoint a response.

The thing is, I placed an order for a local electronics shop (I live in Argentina) for 1uf film caps and what I got was HUGE caps that are pretty much unusable in a small PCB. I would love to use box type caps, but those are not available locally (at least not to my knowledge) and I would have to order them from an international supplier. That's not necessarily a problem, but it takes time and costs more (the current customs situation in Argentina is a NIGHTMARE).

Just wanted to get your 2 cents on possible alternatives or substitutions for those. I was about to use them on the 808 project.

Thanks in advance!

Wow, you have a local Hammond manufacturer?

Sorry for taking ages to reply. No, it's not Hammond. It's a local manufacturer that makes boxes very similar to the 1590Bs... slightly larger though.

Thanks for the input. I'll take a look at your recommendations.

Hey guys. I was just wondering about the 808 OSP and if that would work on a bass guitar. I'm thinking probably the input/output caps need replacement but I wanted to ask for your input on it. Anyone has tried this yet?

Thank you very much for the quick replies. I have the boards all ready to go. I'm just waiting for my local manufacturer to finally get the 1590Bs out of the production line so I can start boxing a few projects that I have behind schedule.

This will be a very noobish basic question. Does q1 and q2 need to be matched in order to build/get a good sound out of Sabertooth? I'll be building one soon, and since I know fuzz pedals are temperamental with transistors (probably when using germanium, but anyway) I wanted to clear that question before getting down to business.

Thanks for your time, guys!
