certain political ideologies is neo-Lysenkoist hogwash

Wow, right out of the pages of National Review!  ;D

I had to google it:

Neo-Lysenkoism
The word "Neo-Lysenkoism" has occasionally been used by hereditarian researchers[Like whom?] as a pejorative term in the debates over race and intelligence and sociobiology to describe scientists minimizing the role of genes in shaping human behavior, such as Leon Kamin, Richard Lewontin, Stephen Jay Gould and Barry Mehler.[19][20]

I am kinda disappointed that, even with the name change, my stupid work server/firewall will not let me get to the site (not at all a Lawrence problem... my work's firewall is very picky)

That was another reason for the name change! Does it tell you why it's been rejected?

Unfortunately no. It might be because it is not an "https" address. I wish it gave me more info but....nope  :-\

The address is HTTPS! https://lovemyswitches.com/

Lawrence is a good man and that was a hard thing to say. I really appreciate that you took time to share your perspective and the steps you have taken, not only to not get blocked from servers, but to make customers and your relationships with them better and most importantly, for your daughter(the pretty thing make a lot of women pissed, so you are not alone on that). It means a lot to many people. You're awesome!

Aww thanks! I can be a miserable fuck at my natural resting state so I have to make sure I take moments like these to feel gratitude that we can share some good vibez over words posted on a forum. I wish you well and may the world continue to improve for all of us.

Also, I realized that me mentioning my daughter being called "pretty" could look like a humble brag. That wasn't my intention. I'll just go ahead and brag. She is the cutest creature I have ever snuggled, second is my first born: Ladybear the cat.

Thanks for chiming in, Lawrence. I followed along with the conversation on Instagram a while back and had a sense of where you were at with it. You run a terrific business that I'm happy to continue supporting, and I'm also very glad you're transitioning to Love My Switches. I wish you the best.

Thanks buddy! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Like the new EHX opamp big muff everyones been excited about.

Hey Friends!

Thank you all for the kind things you've said about me and Rebecca and BLMS.

Want I want to communicate is this: I see you. I hear you. I mean no ill will. I am sensitive to the suffering of others. We have changed the name on most aspects of the business to "Love My Switches" for lots of reasons. Some are business related (Google, Facebook, Instagram don't like bad words), some are personal (Rebecca and [me too when dealing with guys in khakis and company branded polo shirts] didn't feel comfortable saying "Bitches" to any of the folks we do business with).

The name was funny to me. I just popped into my head and seemed good enough. I thought it was obvious that the whole concept of the joke was in the name. Clearly ironic. I can't picture someone would ever say the statement, "Bitches love my switches" and actually believe it.

My intention was not to offend, hurt or denigrate or push anyone away.

It was a different time just 7 or 8 years ago when I started BLMS. The world seems far more sensitive to language. I would certainly pick a different name If I had to start over. And If I knew it would grow to be the thing that supports my family I would certainly have been far too frozen with fear that an internet mob might come after me.

I'm a husband and a dad to a 2 year old daughter. I am so much more sensitive to the messages we tell girls that I used to be. She get's told she's pretty all the time. That's just a weird thing to get rewarded for as a human. You have very little control over the face your genes gave you. I'm hyper focused on rewarding her for the content of her character.

We have done a soft name change to Love My Switches. Everything has been changed except the logo at the top of the site and the stickers and T-Shirts. The logo will change at some point on the site.  I plan on still using the full name for branded stuff because I think that the people that get it are cool. They know it's a joke. And I would want to wear the logo on a shirt.

Jeez this all sounds so disjointed. I wrote so much more but deleted it. Sorry, It's hard to find the right words to express myself! If I was in person I could rely on tone of voice and body language... but just in text on the innernette about a controversial subject??!?! It's beyond my communication abilities.

Recently went to pick up 4 enclosures but, they were out of stock. Set up for email notification for when they come in.
Got the alert and immediately went online to get them.

Only 2 were in stock.  ::)

Still waiting for the other 2  ;D

Which enclosures? We literally just got thousands delivered today. Almost all are back in stock on the site.

The only thing I think I can add here is.. BEWARE OF FEAR. That's what they need us to feel so that they can split us apart. When we are scared of the person on the other side we get angry! And when we are angry we can not see the other persons point of view. And when we can't empathize we get entrenched and stubborn and lose sight of the value of compromise.

We need compromise to move forward as a democracy.

When political parties, corporations, marketers, lobbyists and the culture of our peers corrupts our common sense with making us feel like victims we all lose. DON'T LET THEM MAKE YOU INTO A VICTIM. You're stronger with empathy and forgiveness and understanding.

The name is a pretty cunning way of getting free advertising, too --

"Hey, you won't BELIEVE what this electronic parts store is called!"

"What?"

"Bitches Love My Switches!"

"... you're joking."

"Nope, seriously!"

"What, does he run a postshop called 'Skanks Love My Stamps'?"

The biggest honor bestowed up my little shop was when Tom Whitwell called me "Maplin for Hipsters" https://twitter.com/TomWhitwell/status/334975259419750402

I am way late to this thread party. I just discovered it last night (Google Alerts doesn't actually seem to alert BTW). If I may, can I just add my 2 cents on this name thing?

The name: It just came to me, there was no thinking or trying to put words together. There was no list of keywords and phrases made. The second I thought, "I should sell 3PDT switches cheaper and faster and nicer than the other guys", the name popped into my head. It was so stupid and boyishly inappropriate and absurdly not connected to anything DIY or Hackerish or Music related that it kept me laughing. It was memorable, it had a small lyrical flow to it and it was funny in a silly, edgy way. Plus the domain was available. Easy. Done.

Would it offend anyone? I figured a couple of warriors for the downtrodden would be vocal about it but most people won't care. They might even find it funny. Creatively, I liked to the challenge of working around the name and coming up with ideas for it.

Is it offensive? I think a word needs context to be offensive. A dictionary is not misogynist because it has the word Bitch in it. Is a judge at a dog show wrong for using it? The reasonable would all say no, right?

So what if it has no context? If it just stands alone not connected to anything with a gender. In my eyes this is where it sits in the way I use it. Not really connected to anything other than parts to make cool stuff out of. It's now absurd. There has never been and will never be any women used in the marketing or design of BLMS.

Not because I want to stay sexist free, it's because I have more respect for the people that give me their money.

Let's talk about what offends me. I am offended when I see hot chicks used to sell stuff to me. Not because it's sexist, but because I don't want to give any one my money that thinks I am that dumb. The AXE body spray ads alone make me want to start a smelly riot.

The most important question is: were any actual woman hurt during the making of this little business of mine? I asked my wife, sisters, mom and my female friends before I went forward. All of them asked me why I was being a little bitch and worrying about what other people think. OK that didn't happen. I didn't even mention it to them, because none of them build guitar pedals and thus the name of my site has no effect on their life. And even if they did build, it has no effect on their life.

It may have turned out to be smart business move in the long run. It's a filter to let in the easy going, friendly, smart and relaxed folk. People with a sense of humor are my kind of people. The world is an easier place for them because it fills them with mirth and joy. A customer that won't buy from me because the name hurts their feelings is more likely to be a time and energy sucking grumbler who is victimized by the world at every moment. No thanks. SensitiveSteve'sPartsForAllInclusiveTone.com can have them.

Hey! Can I use this on the site as an example of what to do with a BLMS sticker?
