General Questions / Passive treble boost
February 21, 2014, 09:13:10 PM
This is not a pedal question but it's in the signal chain so I don't feel too bad for asking  ;)
So I've got a p-90 in the neck position and a humbucker at the bridge. If I eq the rig to sound good for the p-90 the bucker sounds deadly bright. Vice versa and the p-90 sounds too dark. I was wondering if there is a passive circuit I could put in the guitar that would boost the treble of the p-90 without the need for an active circuit/battery and without sacrificing the p-90's output level. I'm not keen on subtracting treble from the bucker to  drop down to the p-90's level if you know what I mean.
Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers guys.
I love the sound of the OCD. Sits well with my RAT and Guv'nor.

Would you be interested in selling a couple enclosures?

They take a long time to make (hacksaw, file, hammer, vice job). So I dont know if it would be economical. Depends how big your wallet is :)

Got it together. Sounds sweet.
Box and knobs all hand made.
Hinged case from 2.5mm steel with 1 screw to get to the guts. Knobs turned from brass.

I'll fabricate the box from 2mm steel. Bespoke box sir?

Some box designs for an OCD clone. I like the fulltone box but want top sockets.

Tank proof! Chortle.
Agreed about the silicon diodes. Wasn't so keen on the diode free sound. I'm working on an OCD next so maybe save the mosfet goodness for that.
Yeah Devon UK. Buckfastliegh. Hi.

are those germanium diodes i see in that rat?

Yeah. You can toggle between two sets of socketed diodes. I've got germanium and standard at the mo. Not sure I can tell much difference except for volume levels. It's a work in progress and I'm looking forward to trying leds, mosfets and no diodes at all.

Hey what a friendly response. Cheers.
Funny enough I do have a Guv'nor mk1, well spotted. I think the case construction is similar to the rat with just a bit more slope.
I made it out of 2mm steel. Starting with the base I made a cardboard template, then marked that out on the metal. Cut the steel with a grinder and filed the edges square. Folded the steel in a big old vice with a hammer. The top was made to suit the base. I then welded some tags on the top for the screws. The knobs were turned up on my lathe from steel bar, drilled and taped with a 3mm allen grub screw to keep them snug.

Hi. Nice forum you have here, loads of great stuff.
This is my first go at a pedal. It's a rat clone with a case and knobs I've made in steel. It sounds great (more luck than judgement) and will get plenty of use in my pub rock band ;O)
