I dove into the whole DIY hobby deeply when I started and kept that going for 4-5 years, but then it just faded (also with some other names retreating from the hobby content got less frequent). Frankly, I've never been much of a guitar player and did it more for the building part. These days I do one or two custom pedals occasionally for friends that actually want to play the effects.
Other than that, I have been busy with work, also ramped up my climbing activities (as far as lockdowns let you do this) and also have been playing wayyyyy too much Destiny 2 over the last year on playstation 

But yes, I still lurk around and I have to agree with Jimi. The activity on the forum has gone way down over the last years (despite pandemic lockdowns in winter would be the best to pick time up this hobby).

Brian, did you also see a decrease in business, or is this just the forum? (No need to answer if you don't want to disclose that info, just curious)

I have built a noise gate based on schematics flaoting around too. I found that 2 worked well, while one produces a humming sound at higher gate settings. After lots of swearing I found the IC to be the culprit. I have yet to find another working 2181 though. Where did you source yours?

Have you checked cabintech? They're usually good for hard to find chips. Not sure about right now though, seems to be a chip shortage.

thanks Jimi. Haven't used them before. Unfortunately, they are out of stock (as are all my regular suppliers). With the general semiconductor shortage, I think that XVive is on the lowest priority with fab houses at the moment. The amounts they order are likely much smaller than common semiconductor parts for automotive and so on.

can you tell me where you got your THAT chips from? I built a gate a few weeks back and got some coolaudio v2181 chips via ebay that turned out to be only partially working (1/5). the others introduced more noise than they suppress. unfortunately, I did not find any sources...

yes, you need to modify the parts in the library.
Open the respective library, look for the part and right-click --> edit the pad you want to resize. You'll find inner and outer diameter to adjust.
Just make sure it is the same resistor, cap or whatever part that you also used in the pcb layout.
Once you did that, go back into your project and go to update library and that should apply the changes. maybe do a backup of the library and project before that.

Eagle is free for non-commercial and educational purposes...

depending on what you want to do, you could also use Eagle and just go for a manufactured pcb.
if it is tinkering with part values, IC types etc. and especially circuit itself, I agree that vero/stripboard is easier/faster. you could also try a breadboard for these types.
if you already have part values and circuit down, you can also directly go for a pcb design (look for JMK's Eagle tutorial, they are still valid for the most part despite extensive software updates since he made them)

great work. Eagle will get easier with time. I had a look at Altium Designer at work.... this is extremely overkill for what we do here, but it's so extremely powerful (and complicated)
