after having no time to work on this project for a long time I recently drug it out and attempted to make it.  While the LEDs work there is no sound.  I believe it's in the wiring of the switches although I don't have to capacity to further work it out.  It's been in both my hands and a friends so it's tough for me to determine what the problem is.

I've uploaded a photo of the wiring which is clear to me but if it is not I will take another with better wire separation.

I used jubal81's packaged info in his project report  http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=8519.0

If anyone can give me some insight maybe I can get this pedal working and I would appreciate it very much.  If you can help but the images suck or you need any more info please don't hesitate to ask for me to clarify

thank you

No sound for me.  Not sure what I messed up, no weird or broken solders, switches seem to be wired up correctly.  sad that I waited so long to attempt this one.

does anyone know of a person who fixes pedals?

Hey Now, OP....  I've finally populated the board after so long away from doing anything like this.  I have to say I really appreciate the layout and the orientation marks and all that.  Very well done and helpful.  I hope to drill and assemble soon.

Thanks

Just thought of something. On the build doc, some of the values are in uF and could be confused for nF. It's trebly for sure, but crazy trebly could be a cap goof.

Old thread revival because I'm getting to building this.......

I had the Catalinbread V1 and sold it because it was so piercing when boost was engaged.  It was out of control harsh.  The main reason I want to build this pedal is for the non boost side, but also maybe find a way to tame the treble boost....

that's awesome.  wish I could buy it

i did not put it in the box.  i wired it up per the diagram and first did it wrong, the signal bypassed trough on or off, then I revisited the diagram and nothing when engaged.  Bypass is good though.

I remember seeing some folks wiring up the switched and jacks differently, not sure if the "standard" applies here

I'm going to go through it one last time and then rebuild, or perhaps I'll learn to trace it though with the multimeter to find the glitch

Thx

not sure if this is the place for this.  I've built a RAH clone and it doesn't work.  I've checked the board over  and over and it seems like it's clean.  I followed the standard Madbean jack/switching diagram for the routing.  I think I may have done this incorrectly or possibly there is a different way to wire the jacks/foot switch.

help appreciated
thx

that is just plain bad ass

great info, thanks to everyone.  i managed to get the board populated with a new RadioSh. tip and some tinner/cleaner.  my 40Watt iron is crap and the tip is massive.  I'll check into all the options suggested here.  thx

Lead is better?  I am well ventilated so Lead does not matter much to me.......

we'll see, when i get my jacks, how well i did

Open Discussion / novice etched soldering help....?
June 08, 2013, 04:26:10 PM
well I've soldered manufactured kit boards with no trouble.  I'm attempting to try my first etched board today and at the start i didn't see any trouble.  Now i realize it's tight and tricky.  i think my tipis too big and possibly my iron.

does anyone have any tips recommendations for me to make this go smooth, I'm going up to Radio Smack, although i can;t stand the place, to look for the tiniest tip i can find.

is there a particular watt rating in an iron i need, anything else?

thanks much

Did you happen to see Jaded Faith Mods?  they mod the Randall/ Egnater MTS preamp modules.  I have two of them and they are so good.  I have a Deluxe/Vibrolux mod and a Hiwatt mod.  both are incredibly accurate

I was wanting to get down there to see them but....

very nice, I'm sure it sounds great

May i ask how you came to find the transistors that suited you?  i have heard that the way to go is smallbear and ask for a set with certain characteristics, which is what I will probably do.

what did you do?  I have a problematic MKII

Thx
