Build Reports / My First Babies!
September 26, 2013, 02:32:35 PM
I finally built a couple of successful 1590a pedals.  My first attempt, a Smoothie, works fine but needs to be rehoused.  It keeps shorting out on the enclosure.  But these two...

Work!

Up first is a Hipster.  I used 2n4123 for Q1 and BC109 for Q2.  As discerning eyes can see, I melted my trim pot.  It still works, just not with a screwdriver.  Getting to 4.5v was a little more difficult (Fat Fingers + Tiny Enclosure = Aggravation).  The drilling is askew, but the PPP Blue Hammertone finish is exquisite.  I like this fuzz a lot.  Ultimately, I think I'm more of an overdrive kind of guy, but I seem to keep building fuzz pedals.  I've got plenty here around the house I've not posted.

This fella is a GrindCustoms Feng Drive in PPP Chocolate.  I'm surprised I got this all to fit, but learning from my mistakes with the Hipster (order of operations, wiring techniques, etc.), things worked out swimmingly.  Sounds amazing.  I love me some overdrive, and this guy really hits all the right marks.  Cleans up beautifully.  Along with my Egghead, I'm satisfied with my overdrive options (for the moment...).

Quote from: Bret608 on September 16, 2013, 02:41:54 PMIf I were you I might trim those wire leads coming out of the solder joints on your 3PDT board, but if they're not shorting on anything, why worry?  :)

I knew I forgot something! Good looking out.

Build Reports / Five O'Clock Fuzz
September 16, 2013, 12:15:56 AM
Hey all.  Here's a 1776 Effects Five O'Clock Fuzz.  The enclosure is Raspberry Vein from PPP.

Couple of OC76s in there.  Sounds lovely, with lots of control over the fuzz.  The treble bleed option really adds some versatility to the pedal.  It's definitely earned a spot on my board.

My goal with this fella was clean, clean insides.  I love the way this turned out.

I'll post a demo in a few days.

What a build! I've yet to complete a 1590a successfully, but everyone of yours makes me keep trying. Well done, sir.

Very artistic! looks very nice! did you put any clear coat on the top?

I brushed on two coats of Mod Podge Hard Coat formula.  Simple and, hopefully, effective.  Although, I don't abuse my boxes too much.  We'll see how it holds up.

Nothing to be ashamed about in this build for sure! That looks great. Does the hard coat leave a matte finish? Looks like it does.
-Josh

Yes, the hard coat leaves a satin, matte finish. I tried the gloss variety on a guinea pig enclosure, and it not only dulled the colors, but felt tacky and did not adhere as well.

Hey fantastic demo there. I like the filtering of the MPJ for sure. Got to build one up. Thanks for providing the nice sounds  :)

Thanks.  It's really a fantastic sounding pedal.  Now that I got a Step Bit, I think I'll give the Multiplex (Sr.) a go.

had this populated for some time and decided to box her up.  This enclosure is my first attempt using alcohol inks.  Finished with Mod Podge hard coat.  Under certain light, purples and greens become more prevalent.  Sunlight washes out some of those colors.

Yes dude. Love this one. Green and silver is always a cool combo.
Excellent job and keep em coming.

Can you do a demo? I would love to hear the MPJ

Indeed.  I believe I will post a demo soon.  It sounds pretty tasty with some reverb and the Harbinger One.

And now I have posted demo on the original first post.  Excuse the weirdness at the end, but I couldn't help myself.

Nice build dude !!!
I love those knobs but they are very expensive at Banzai. Where did you get yours ?
Thank you.

Please keep posting your creations !!!

Thanks.  I got the knobs at Small Bear.  Yes, they are a bit spendy for knobs, but I wanted something shiny with a small form factor.  Those knobs Pickdropper always uses would have been nice, too.
