Messages - Kinki fuzz

#61
Well, maybe not very vintage, but whatever. I got a Colorsound wah (sweeeet sound) that had only battery option. I drilled an added jack for external 9v supply. With some power supplies I get an annoying  "wweeeeeeeee" in a certain pedal position.
I realized the pedal has no power filtering (as it was only intended for batteries), so I thought I could add a little board with a filter.
Does that make sense?

I think a 100u electrolytic cap and maybe a polarity protection diode. Enough? Or should I add something extra?

Thanks guys!

Cheers for all the responses! Looks like I've got a lot to work through there! I'll probably have a listen to a few sound samples and settle on a couple to put together.

Thanks again!

I'm a huge fan of the RAT too, the Slow Loris project is a great one, lots of character and very versatile. Distortion + or DOD250 are good if you are pushing a driven amp with them.

I would also recommend the Tube Sound Fuzz or Red Llama, easy build and great tone, both on it's own or mixed with a driven amp. Don't let the name fool you, not a fuzz at all. Madbean's Snarkdoodle project.

This ones are not from tayda, they are not great either but useable at least, I won't be ordering more once they are over. I got a few from tayda some time ago and they were really bad.

This is Aion's PCB for the Maxon OD820. Stunning overdrive, often compared to the Klon Centaur, yes it's the same kind of overdrive, to my ears it has a flatter fq response sounds less mids focused than the centaur and respects more the original sound of the rest of the rig. Which is better? Both are great and different enough so you want to have both.

First post with embebed pics, by the way! ;D

That looks awesome. I'm new to building, so I got dumb questions... I like your indicator lights, I'm
curious about the little board though. Is it lamp protection and some sort of pulse thing going on? Or
is that just holding a resistor for the LED and the rest is add'l clipping?

Glad to hear you like the pedal , was going to build it, ordered the parts but forgot to get the board and then it got superseded >:(, so, I got the new board and just ordered the the new spec parts. ;D Can't wait to hear it.
The small board is a millennium 2 bypass, so I can use de 2PDT switch and have both Led indication and for true bypass. I'd rather use de usual 3PDT, but I got some old  2PDT that I want to use. Check the millennium here.

I forgot to comment, I have used the true bypass option in the build, not the buffer.
The pedal itself is great, you won't regret building it, yesterday I was playing through it with different guitars, and hell, is it good!.

Cool build! Looks great.
I think just the same, too wild to use it a lot or build your sound around it, but sounds so amazing and unique, you must have one.

I'm a fan of GoT --> awesome pedal.
Yeah, me too, the books, the tv series, I'm a little obsessed, so the lion was a must, it should have been blood red, though
:-)
