General Questions / Re: Fat pants w/o stomp?

Why would you want a boost always on? Couldn't you just keep the ego driver cranked and use it a a boost instead of having an extra boost in there or is there some extra mojo I don't know about?  :P

And for what it's worth, my vero Timmy is always on :-)

Also the fatpants has 18V out so the ego can run on that for additional headroom.

Seems that most folks that use the Fatpants use it as an 'always on' pedal.

i dont want to put too many switches and what not on if I don't have to :-)

General Questions / Fat pants w/o stomp?
February 13, 2014, 06:09:01 PM
I'm working on a fatpants build with an Egodriver and a 3pdt toggle to switch pedal order. Wondering if anyone else found it useful to actually have a stomp for the fatpants or if should keep it always on, or just use a toggle.

The only reason I could maybe see is as a boost Ego->FP, but i havent used them yet. Just curious, I know a few guys have done the same combo pedal.

Fantastic Brian. Glad to see you pushing bigger and forward! I went away for a year and came back to the friendliest forum on the net.

Cheers!

Do you have  the battery snap hooked to the input ring like this? so that when you plug in the 9v, the battery doesnt get wasted.
Almost - It prevents power period without an input cable being inserted. Much better than what I had up there.

I guess that was a little confusing. On my pedals when 9v is in and the input jack plugged in, they will not work, even with a battery installed. I need to unplug the 9v for the battery to kick on.

On my black '65, I took a fine tip sharpie and drew on the bare side, marking each value, R1,R2, etc... so that i didnt have to keep looking back between the BOM and the layout.

Open Discussion / Pedalsnake from snake
February 08, 2014, 05:18:06 PM
Has anyone ran into issues with a diy pedalsnake?

I have this one (http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=115&cp_id=11509&cs_id=1150904&p_id=8763&seq=1&format=2&utm_expid=58369800-11.R-enhtUGRrSdHz5vzpVS2g.0&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.monoprice.com%2FCategory%3Fc_id%3D115%26cp_id%3D11509%26cs_id%3D1150904) from monoprice, and havent made my power connection yet, because I'm a little worried about running my board off of it, although, most of my pedals are low power. They are only 25AWG.

Anyone see any issues? Maybe i should add an inline fuse to the power line?

my plan was to run 9v on one pair, one stereo to my reverb/trem switch for the amp, and then just use the other two for my A/B to my normal/top boost channels (AC15c1). I could split the stereo cable but why waste the effort when i dont need the other channel.

Is the gain boost just in series with the gain pot?

What values did you use?

I've got a 125b kingslayer build around the corner and was thinking of doing something similar.

Build Reports / Re: The Darkside Kingslayer
February 06, 2014, 08:55:50 PM
This is in the build doc...

09.17 Update: A couple have people have pointed out that running the Kingslayer at the max gain
setting with both the soft and hard clipping diodes lifted caused some motor-boating and/or
oscillation. This is due to the higher gain produced by using 1M for R11. For the most part, you do not
want to use the max gain setting with no diodes, but it does sound pretty good up to the half-way
point (before harsh op-amp clipping sets in). If you want to avoid this situation altogether, socket R11
and try some lower values, something between 470-750k. Keep in mind that this will also reduce the
max gain when the clipping diodes are engaged, so it may require testing a couple values to find the
best balance for your needs.

I've never used his pickups on a Strat, but I have Bill Lawrence (Wilde Pickups) Keystones in my Tele and I LOVE them. And you cannot beat them for the price (although apparently Tonerider's are pretty decent too).

Might want to check out Bill's work at www.wildepickups.com $84 for the set of 3 keystones for strat. He's the real deal when it comes to pickups. Family owned and operated, hand made in the USA by a master craftsman that hold a lot of pickup patents (he actually has workers do it, but their attention to detail is great. He used to work for Gibson LONG ago. Dont get confused with Bill Lawrence USA pickups which are made by some russian guy that refuses to give up the name and actually sued Bill Lawrence and forced him to change his company name to Wilde Pickups.

Tonerider can be purchased on ebay and some other sites online www.tonerider.com. I've got a set of Tone Rider p90s waiting to go into a thinline tele build.
