Who knew drama class would one day get me a PCB board?

Go figure.

The kingship was not passed by birthright, but rather by election. Correct?

Modified to correct spelling.

Build Reports / Re: Uproar Tiny Monster

Those chopper washers almost look like grommets one might use when repairing a tarp or making a vinyl sign. I may have to see if I can find some chopper ones next time I am at the hardware store.

I once bought 5 BBE Green Screamers at a GC clearance for $10 each and sold them on ebay for $50 each. Easy $200.

The most complicated deal I've ever done is bought a Dr. Distorto Mono Line 6 Tonecore pedal that wouldn't work with a battery for $10 (I use a PS all the time anyway.)

I then bought 2 Verbzilla modules from line 6 before they went out of stock for $20 each.

I sold one of the Verbzilla modules on ebay to an international buyer for $70 and the Dr. Distorto module for $30.

I threw my Verbzilla module into my mono dock and modded it for stereo operation.

Now I have a Stereo Verbzilla and $50(give or take for shipping expenses)

Do any of you guys have experience with loopers when playing with a drummer?

I sometimes have to re-tap my delays in so that my dotted 8ths are in time with the rest of the band. If I lay down a loop do I have to go back and change it if it gets out of time with the band?

I can solve all those problems with a computer and click tracks, but if I'm doing that, I could just add backing tracks with the other guitar parts defeating my need for a looper.

Build Reports / Collosalus Almost Done - Clock Noise
January 06, 2013, 12:40:28 AM
I finally got around to finishing off my Collosalus. The Holiday season took the wind right out of my pedal building sails.

When I first built this bad boy, I boxed it before I rocked it and it didn't work. I took it apart and found that I forgot to solder one single pin from IC1, which happened to be the pin where the signal goes into it. FAIL.

I got the pin soldered, checked it, and I have sound, and flange. Which supprised me, becuase I bought some cheap 3007s, thinking that for a couple bucks I would give it a shot.

Outside - It's one of the Vein colors from PPP, I bought it so long ago I can't even remember which one.

Inside - Not my neatest wiring, but I already had to take it apart once, so I don't care at this point.

I'm getting some clock noise in the pedal, I didn't socket c22 like the build doc suggested, again, FAIL. Should I desolder and throw some sockets in there and play around with different values? Or is that not the problem? Everything is stock except that I changed out both of the 15uf caps, one is 10uf one is 22uf.

I would be interested in Pot labels, depending on the price of course. Do you usually clearcoat over the labels, or just stick them and leave them over the paint?

The really important question for me that I would ask is, can you do white or cream labels?

Dang, I could see using that setup to do a light show. Then you wouldn't have to worry about a lighting engineer falling asleep or going out for coffee in the middle of a gig.

Literally and figuratively.

What do you guys think? I feel like I would get beat up if I tried to wear that while playing in dingy clubs.

Thanks Scruffie, for the time being, I'll throw a couple 10uf caps in there so I can make sure everything is working out ok, and then replace them with 15uf when I get some in.

As for the two 100uf caps near the charge pump C20 and C27, do those need to be 25v or can I use 16v parts there? I can easily order the 25v ones, but I don't want to waste the shipping if something I already have will work.

Thanks

Tech Help - Projects Page / Collosalus Cap problems

I searched around the forum and didn't find any answers, so I figured I'd ask the gurus here.

1. I'm building a Collosalus right now, and for some reason, I ended up without 15uf caps in my order.

Can I used a 10uf here, or should I hold off and order some 15ufs with my next order? I could maybe squeeze a 10uf and 4.7uf in parallel there, would that work?

2. Same build, different question. Do both C20 and C27 need to be 25v caps because of the charge pump, or can I get away with using 16v caps there?

You guys rock!

Thanks

I'm getting ready to jump aboard the SMT train. Some simple projects would be great, or even difficult projects squeezed into smaller boxes. Especially if the BOMs were ready to go so I could purchase parts in one click, or use the mouser info to find comparable parts from other suppliers. I would buy some boards for sure.

It's in the next batch. I have a bunch of boards that have issues that I may sell for cheap. Requires a wire on the bottom to connect VB...

Jacob

I'd be down for a protoboard. Wires on the bottom of a board make things look sexier anyways.
