Thanks Bean.
I have to learn to etch my own soon.

I think that Madbean is awesome. Best source for pedal pcbs. The documentation is great. Sometimes I get slowed down a bit converting capacitor values from nF to mF, and checking the layout to see if they are electrolytic or not. But that's not a big deal.

Also, I'd like a link on the forum to get back to the Projects site.

Finally, Madbean t-shirts and stickers would be cool!! Thanks!!

Build Reports / Re: Aristocrat

I finally got my KoT last year. I was not really impressed. Like Bean said, it's a nice pedal but def overhyped. I sold mine to a local guy for what I paid. Then I built my Aristocrat.

That particular PPP pedal is a standard Pre-drilled enclosure that they sell (1590NS Drilled for 4 Knobs, 2 Switches - Code: 1071). I bough the same one for my Aristocrat.

I did have to drill for the tone pots myself.

I let my 10yo daughter do the artwork. :)

Requests / Catalinbread Formula No 5

I love the demo of this pedal on the Catalinbread website. I've been watching the FSB thread on this hoping to see verified vero layout. They've got a verified PCB layout but I haven't gotten into making my own PCBs yet.

Any chance of seeing a Formula 5 PCB here??

Mods / Re: Macheen: switch to SHO?

One other thing to watch out for, however, is the polarized nature of C3. If you're using C3 as the output of the boost, it's positive side will be at 0 VDC while it's negative side will be at some small positive VDC (maybe 1.5V as a guess). This is bad, so you'd likely have to include another outboard cap to rectify this (ie, tap it from the R5/C3 node).

Nice catch! I never would have caught that. I think I agree B_of_H, it is probably easier to just build a separate SHO. I have already built one so no big reason to insert a switch into the Macheen. Thanks so much for the helps!

Mods / Macheen: switch to SHO?
January 28, 2011, 12:55:31 PM
Hi. I read in the project document that the Macheen has an SHO at the front of the circuit. When I compare the schematics (Macheen vs. Slambox) I can see the core of the SHO at the front of the Macheen schem. But it is not exact, as the output from Q1 goes thru R5 and C3 into Q2/Q3.

Is it possible to insert a switch somewhere in that area (R5/C3) to redirect the output bypassing the rest of the circuit? That way you could switch between SHO and Macheen. I am guessing it would be fairly easy - but am still new to this stuff.

Thanks for any comments or help!!

Thank you Brian!!
I really appreciate the excellent explanation and response to my questions. You made it undestandable and taught me a few things. Thanks again!!

Hi, I just completed my Yellow Shark build. The kids are asleep, so I can't really crank it yet. But at low volumes it sounds great so far. I was a little surprised by the Nature control. I assumed it was a tone control, but noticed it impacts the overdrive quality more than tone. Since it has LEDs for clipping, I turned off the lights and watched the LEDs as I strummed and fiddled with the knob. There is more light emitted as you turn the knob counter-clockwise.

Anyway, I looked at the schematic (which is almost greek to me) but I can see that the Nature pot is in a loop with the LEDs. So does the Nature control blend in LED clipping? Can someone explain what's going on with the Nature control? It seems like a cool and novel idea. Is it?

Thanks for any help you can give me in understanding this!! - Rowland

I was just going to request the AC Booster. I searched first and found this thread. Glad to hear it is already on the list.

I'm not smart enough to know for sure, but could the Zombii have positive ground with PNP transistor? If so, that could cause some trouble. That might also explain the trouble with the One-spot. I have this problem with my PNP Rangemaster clone.

Since Madbean and jkokura didn't mention this I assume the Zombii is neg ground. But could an error in assembly lead to reverse polarity? Like I said I'm not an expert, so will defer to others for confirmation on this.

I was wondering the same thing about the regulator. Do you select a regulator based on the regulated voltage that you want? I'd also benefit from a wiring diagram or description. Thanks!!

Using the Altoids tin is a cool idea. I'll have to see what I can squeeze into one of those.

Its funny you mention Rush - I always end up playing 'No One at the Bridge' from Caress of Steel when I try a new chorus pedal. Perfect for extreme swirly chorus.

Thanks again for your posts and reply. - Rowland

Thanks for the youtube demo. I am gonna have to build one of these. BTW, what is that "curiously strong" little pedal you've got on your board?
