j, thought you might like my latest BG2 resto-mod BOOMACHO. (sold to a collector in france, early 68 Bg2 with the rare white inductor, bg1 inductor)

very clean work, congrats. love it. the yellow fasel is nice in these.

is it also a volume pedal?

there is a world of low mid wonder available when a proper rev log pot 25k or 50k is used. the hotpotz2 sweeps past the mids so fast the ind /gd cap cannot fully charge.

wow, looks nice! congrats on the builds. do you play Cminor reggae riffs with the autowah one?

let me add, i do not know that the 250k is log taper. it might be the way the string acts at the end of travel, or something else. seems logical ot me that EB would stick to linear throughout the range, all i know for sure is that the 25k 2011 model was linear.

EB mentions on their website that tapers have changed as they have used 3 different pot suppliers over recent years.

if you look at the graph for log ( audio ), you see a slight flattening at the high end. but it continues to rise even through the final 5%. the 'hump' you are hearing is this quick flattening of this curve in reverse. you even mention it does the reverse when the leads are swapped.

i tested a 2011 EB VP jr, but with 25k ( active?). the pot was linear. i assume they chose linear to avoid the problem you are experiencing with the 250k version.

the multimeters from harbor freight have hfe testing and trans sockets. they are under 10 bucks, and they seem to give reasonably good readings.

^^^ above was for Si. Ge trans, see the RG article linked above.

Nice build. Congrats, and kudos.

in over 11 years hanging out at aron's forum, i have never seen a build report on  the 'anderton ldr/led pot replacement circuit" (shown at geofex) that was successful.

i tried it, and found a bad time lag that made it unusable. didn't bother to try and perfect it, just moved on.
someone asked about a lag in the circuit, and i recall RG said that LEDs lit up in milliseconds, so it shouldn't be a problem. but there are plenty of components in there, who knows where the lag could be.

in a separate experiment, i built a dual ld/ldr setup for wah and vol control and found it plenty fast enough. the morleys also keep their leds or bulbs lit continuously and don't seem to have any lag problem. buy a morley cheap and copy their setup. cute little tadpoles in cardboard shutters.

General Questions / Re: fuzz/boost input blend pot value?
February 25, 2012, 07:53:11 PM
i am sure there was a reason for the 100k on the easyface. it's been 12 years, can't recall exactly why. but i can tell you that if i put it in there it was chosen after testing numerous values.

i recall really liking 250k in this position as well in similar FF based circs.

brian, i agree, also sometimes to clean things up i will go to an in input vol, 100k to ground, and/or smaller input cap. but the idea to try a lower gain trans in Q1 and/or higher value  r @ Q1 emmiter are good things to try first.

Open Discussion / Re: Wilson Freaker Wah
February 23, 2012, 11:59:39 PM
hi mike, i mentioned a wilson wah a few days ago, but not the freaker. the freaker is based on the tychobrae parapedal ( now made by chicago iron ). this is an opamp design, and uses a dual gang pot. the circuit topology is way different than the weener.

you can get deep bass with the weener, but overall, the freaker is coming from a different place.

cool, appreciate the report. gains in Q1 and Q2 can also affect the wah quotient, remember the whole circuit is riding on the balance point of the two trans, if one or the other is too strong it can play into the response.

as early as 85, GMarts had designed a selector for sweep
cap and noted the need for  1 meg pulldown resistors.

oh, and i forgot, the foxx wahs of early 70s had a rotary freq selector as well. unknown by me if there were resistors to cut the crackle.

quote: Yes, the cap switcher pops when i turn it.

oh, don't worry, the wilson wahs that have freq changing cap switch do this also. + the official manual has no word of warning to turn your amp down when changing settings . ouch!
