Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Kraken Problem

Ok solved the problem.  Replaced IC1 CA3080 with LM3080 and it works like a charm.
It vexed me because I tested the circuit before I boxed it, and everything was great.  Some how that IC got zapped or just went faulty.  Cheap parts.

Im getting sound thru with my Kraken, but no effects.  Pin 5 on my IC1 and Q2 Collector is giving me 3.26 volts instead of 0.598 volts.  Any thoughts?  Thanks guys.

Build Reports / Maestro Fz-1A Fuzztone

Just finished this build off of a layout from
http://effectslayouts.blogspot.com/2015/06/maestro-fz-1a-fuzz-tone.html#comment-form

This was my first perfboard build.  I got the small wedge enclosure from Frys Electronics.  It was a bit difficult to work with because it was made from steel, but I got it together.

I used Krylon Glitter paint for the sides, and just sealed it with glossy enamel and cooked it in the toaster oven at 150degrees for about an 30 mins.

I used Testors Decal paper for the logo and decals, it came out great at first but for some reason when I sprayed it with enamel to seal it, it bubbled and it didnt come out as good as I wished but its fine.

Got the transistors from Small Bear with the bias resistors, he was such a great help with that side of the build.

The original is 1.5volts but luckily the effects layout had worked in a voltage stepdown so I was able to run it with a 9volt power supply.  I just had to reverse all the diodes and Caps, and make sure you order NPN Transistors not PNP.

Anyway thanks for everyones help, this site has made building really fun! Enjoy!

Build Reports / Kraken aka Wreckster

Finished my Kraken build! I used Krylon Glitter paint for the sides, and gave it about 3 coats of clear enamel.  I gotta find something thicker to coat the sides with next time.

I finally got around to using Envirotex on the top with some testors decal paper.  Juansolo was a big help, I sent him a few messages and he really helped with his suggestions.

For those of you that haven't tried it.  Do it!!!. It comes out so cool!  It wasn't that hard at all, just go slow.  Prepping is everything!
I will admit, you have to sit there and baby sit it for about an hour so that it doesn't drip down the sides.  And you really have to make sure you use a level, and pour it on a very flat even surface.  But I followed Juansolos tutorial and it came out excellent for my first shot.  Make sure you use a step bit to re drill the holes.  My next pour will be even better.

I decided to put a #5 dice on the up/down switch because it is a remake of the Mutron Micro V.

Next build im finishing a Maestro FZ-1a.  Wish me luck.

I like the way you recessed the LEDS with a starter bit I assume?.. Nice.

I was just about to start another thread with the same basic issue... in my Naughty Fish build, everything seems to be OK in the Range=Down position.  In the Range=Up position I either get no effect, or an auto-wah that is so quiet as to be almost useless.  I fiddled with the gain, sweep, trimmer, and master volume pots in all permutations of the other switches where Range=Up.  I spent a bunch of time with it and I just couldn't get any useful sounds dialed in with Range=Up.

I'm using the Macron "F" style Optocouplers from Smallbear.  I ordered them a few months ago.  Is the recommendation that I should order the VTL5C3 from another source?  Or should I do some other troubleshooting?  All of my voltages look reasonable as compared to the documentation.

Thanks.

Trash those Macrons..goto ebay and search for Xvive Audio VTL5C3! Cabin Global has them for $7.00!

It should be money after that! Let us know if it works after you replace them.
