Actually tried one of these at the Amp Expo a year or two ago, IIRC. The little silver nub in the picture is an RCA jack. The pedal is meant to be used with one of his Pedalboard Tamers (bypass looper), which is used for pedal bypass and has the tap switch built in.

I found myself just as impressed with the fact that he fit 5 chicken head knobs on the thing. I can barely fit 2 or 3 on my builds without them knocking into each other...

I have my own Breaking Bad-inspired pedal in the works at the moment, but I have to say that this is absolutely KILLER. Love everything about it. The molecular structures in the background add a lot of depth to the image without busying things up. Fantastic design.

Yep, I've switched to the Amphenols. They really are quite nice, if not a little bulky. Most of my builds over the past couple of years have top mounted jacks, so the plug size hasn't been an issue.

I've wired boards up with both George L's and Lavas. If you're patient and build them correctly, they'll withstand quite a bit before they get wonky.

That being said, since I started gigging a lot more I went back and soldered all of the cables on my board. About once every ten shows or so I'd have one of the Lavas loosen up and give me an intermittent signal.

Amazing graphics on this man. Killer aesthetic. I've built two or three of these... hmm, maybe four... and all but one had ticking on certain settings.

I used the Testors stuff for a couple of years until I just couldn't stand it anymore. Sometimes it would set correctly, sometimes it wouldn't set at all... sometimes it would lift after it had set....

I'm using the Papilio stuff now and it's been considerably better to work with.

I had to do a super-quick load out after a particular show a few weeks ago and realized it would be pretty convenient to have all my pedalboard connections in one place. Guts-wise, an incredibly boring build... but I am proud of the artwork concept.  ;)

Yeah, I know that using shielded wiring in this was generally unnecessary. It just felt like the right thing to do.

Phenomenal artwork, and of course perfect font choice. Love these enclosures!

Surprised and slightly let down that you didn't add nipples to the bottom of the "R" in the Coloursound logo.

I'm a huge Calvin and Hobbes fan, and recognized the second image instantly  ;D

Awesome work. Can't wait to hear the demo on this one.

Would you mind if i share that on my facebook page?

You did a great job and i think that it's a great read for anyone that is in the pedal market as a buyer or runs a small buisness from it.

By all means, go ahead! The fine folks at Caroline Guitar Company already did the same thing.

NO WAY!

I'm a day away from finishing up MY tap tempo Hamlet. Very cool to see another one verified and rocking... and in such a pretty box. Excellent work Jon!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I must have struck a nerve with this one, as it's gotten quite a bit more attention than my usual posts. Nevertheless, it's all been positive responses so far, so hopefully this will help some people out here and there. It just kills me to see people buying cheap clone-y junk when there's so many talented people here at MBP alone (not to mention FSB, DIYSB, BYOC, and all of the other communities out there) doing absolutely fantastic work.

Juansolo - I'm half tempted to add your picture to the article. I was cracking up looking at it. I don't even have pictures of my first few builds (which were BYOC kits), and I guarantee that they're horrendous.

I'm actually putting off posting up a recent build as it looks more like the one on the left than the one on the right. It's just one of those layouts that makes it impossible to do neatly. Then I made the cables too long because I expected for some of the pot wiring to be wrong (long story), and it wasn't this time... Pretty it ain't. When the knobs turn up it'll get posted for completeness. But its not one I'm particularly proud of the insides of. I should probably goop it...

The point in the article about "messy wiring" was one where I tried to tread lightly. Simply put, some builds just aren't set up for clean wiring. My univibe project has a great deal of spaghetti inside due to the way that it's laid out, but it's uber-reliable and quiet as a mouse. Still, I do feel like you can generally tell by looking whether or not the wiring layout has been thought out carefully or just mashed together.
