Well Jimi, when a man gives a woman money or objects worth money...

Regarding using names of existing products, it's not a problem to describe the clone product by comparing it to the original.

However, it might be a problem to have the trademarked name actually on the clone PCB silkscreen. That could indeed cause customer confusion. So yeah, that's not cool. But the rest of it is what you see in every other industry on the planet.

Not to mention using Zach's copyrighted descriptions of the circuits....

Yes, it seems like custom graphics cause problems. Sometimes they work right at OSHP, and sometimes not. But on mine, the rest of the silkscreen is still there, just not the graphics. I also recently did a Seeed Studio order that came back with no top silkscreen.

I've started using a gerber viewer app to take a look at the silkscreen before I send them off. Sometimes I think Eagle just flubbs the gerber creation process when there are wacky graphics.
Sorry to necro a thread - but there is an answer to the custom graphics issue very recently on OshPark -
AND this thread shows up (first) in google results when searching the problem.

Answer is here:

Feel the same way but that would require new learn'n, I still get hung up on the pint vs quart !  whats so wrong with say'n 4 cups ? LOL
Had a box come through work the other day from china, had a fraction saying 2/10ths  on it. we laughed like hell half the day
kind of like saying 50/100ths when you could just say 1/2

A pint is a unit of measure for adult beverages.
Cups are used in baking.
All I ever worry about. Everything else I have measuring devices and scales to figure out.

General Questions / Re: Pot sub resistor trick help
January 05, 2014, 12:04:30 AM
Thanks for the explanation. I wound up hooking up the resistor'd pots and tested out my board. After a couple dodgy 2N5088's were replaced everything worked as expected. I wound up getting 125-130k pots out of my resistor mods and everything seems to be working just fine. I've been holding off on a Tayda order waiting for a code, which hasn't happened. I'll order this weekend and everyone can thank me for triggering the discount.

So I'm gonna take it at 645° (per my iron) for 63/37 solder is "too hot" then?

Now, as a physics teacher I feel the urge to insist that you should mention the proper units (or any unit in this case) of your measurement. As a European, your post scared the hell out of me: I only solder at 320, about half the numerical value, degrees...Centigrade that is!

Thanks for adding in the Fahrenheit, Pickdropper ;)
645°C ~ 1200°F I bet that's hot, and yeah that'd scare me too. Sorry for the heart attack Rockhorst!

This is the stuff you need:

http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=7129&step=4&showunits=inches&id=240&top_cat=60

Josh (1776) gave me the link a while ago and I've never had issues. The shipping is a little expensive, but it is perfect for faceplates and they will cut it to the dimension of your choosing.

These guys have a shop close to me. I wonder...
They have business offices close to me. Scratch that.

General Questions / Pot sub resistor trick help
December 29, 2013, 06:35:59 PM
Pardon my ignorance - I'm learning how all of this actually "works" still.

I have a Mudbunny board I'm populating that I wanna play, and I don't have the 100k pots(on hand - order placed later today). I have a couple 250k and a 500k pot handy. I know I could use a couple resistors across lugs 1 and 3 to get the "correct" pot value . I'm of the understanding (perhaps incorrectly) that the resistor trick is only to be used in a variable resistor situation, not in a voltage divider one.
My questions:
Does it matter which way they're being used as to do the trick?

What function are these pots?
My guess is Voltage divider for Vol and Sustain as I'm seeing 9v come in lug 3 of both.
Tone seems to be variable resistor? Blending between two caps to ground?

Thanks Pickdropper - Think you even said the same thing in other thread.

It's like deja-vu, all over again.

So I'm gonna take it at 645° (per my iron) for 63/37 solder is "too hot" then? I've never had any problems, usually allows for quick in and out except for pots. Seems to work fine with PCB and Vero (not so quick out there, but that's ok)

Edit: Found the answer to my question:

It seems Jacob has the boards in the mail - I have the taptation kit on the way as well. Just need to order the rest of the chips and some pots from Tayda. It's awesome that folks want to help with this.

Open Discussion / Delay with Tap Tempo questions
December 24, 2013, 05:20:06 AM
I have a young employee that is an amazing bass and guitar player. Times are tough for his family - Christmas this year means keeping the heat and electric on. He's a a great kid, we're talking share his sandwich with you because you forgot your wallet, even though it's his meal for the day. I was going to work on a couple of pedals this month and also Jacob's looper, but I think I want to build a delay instead. Why tap tempo? Because he thinks it's freaking great. If a kid is willing to offer me half of his food for the day, I think I can spare a chunk of my play money for the month. My holiday PIF if you will - just a little late because I was not aware.

Taptation as I understand it is the way to go for Tap Tempo.  There's a proverbial crap ton of delays out there and I'm looking for input to a known working solution. Aron sells the taptation kits for $20.

Reqs:
Max 1590BB enclosure
Clean - I love my Cave Dweller but not a candidate for this
Available within the Madbean "family" - MB, JMK, 1776, Midwayfair, GrindCustoms etc all welcome. If I forgot someone, pardon my ignorance
Known working Tap Tempo

Nice:
Tails
Slam mod - I'd do an external 1590a for this 3 stomps on a 1590BB is a little tight.
Led as visual indicator of delay setting

My (limited) research has me looking into Jacob's Modular Delay + Modulating Taptation. I'm completely open to other suggestions.  The duo of boards from Jacob seems to have all of the reqs and the LED option. I "think" (boy does THAT get me in trouble sometimes) that Slam can be added by shunting Pin 3 of the Feedback pot to ground.

Thanks in advance
