While pedal building can have it's dangerous aspects as you have already experienced there are a few tips that can help you out.  Let me offer some easy solutions to what you have expereinced so far

Situation  - "I've burnt the hell out of my left index finger.  I have a burn on the top and my tip is a little cooked. "

Solution - Turn the iron around, the other end is much cooler

Situation - "The board whipped around and slugged me right in the nards.  Luckily, due to shock delay of getting popped in the ping-pong balls, I was able to stop drilling and lay the power tool down before doubleing over.  "

Solution - Buy an Athletic cup and always wear it when drilling.  Also, as in situation 1 always make sure to have hold of the correct end when using the tool.

;D ;D

Actually, experience and practice are your best friends.  Keep at it and over time you will learn the techniques that make it easier with each build.

Scour the board and learn from others mistakes and misfortunes as most of us struggle from time to time.  Stick with it, it is a rewarding hobby.

yeah, I'm sick I know.....

Not really.  I built these for a client a while back.  He knew what he wanted that was for sure.

Yep, I've seen it around and liked the pic.  Google images is your friend and I was not felling very creative that day.  More concerned with the wet sanding the enclosure process.  De boobed via photoshop.

We just celebrated our 19th earlier this month. 2 kids who are now 11 and 13.  I don't really miss the single life really. I enjoy spending time with my family and while it was a blast watching Buzz Lightyear 35 times, I am now loving spending time with my two boys as they get older and start to enjoy sports, girls, music, golf etc..

Just tonight as my youngest and I were loading songs on his ipod he starting cracking up and when I asked  him what was up he said he just noticed that the Aerosmith album "Night in the Ruts" was something different if you changed the letters around.  He asked me if they did that on purpose.  So I said what do you think ? He said, yea I bet they did.  Adults are always hiding little jokes in stuff that little kid can't see just to be funny.

Nice! Is this the board I traded for the cosmo board? Very clean build!

That it is.  Wish I had more of these.

Thank Dutch.  Very nice souding chorus, lush and rich. Well worth the effort and lesson learned during the build.

Fixed IT!!!!

Was not a reflow problem.  When I put in the jumper for the IC I thought I had created a solder bridge between pin 5 and the jumper so I cleaned it up and scaped away excess solder between the two points.

While trouble shooting I noticed that the jumper had voltage and that pin 5 did not and wondered if I had broken a trace between the two while cleaning my solder bridge.

So I created a connection between pin 5 and the jumper an TA DA !!!  Voltage on pins 5, 7 and 8.

Hooked it up an it works as expected.   Thanks to Scruffie and everyone for the help.

No chip in socket

1-0
2-3.68
3-4.05
4-7.45
5-0
6-3.6
7-0
8-0

when I put the chip in the only difference is

5=(-0.01)
7=0.02
8=0.02

Reflowing now, afraid I am going make it worse...

Should the jumpers under the IC have voltage ?
