Hey Paul, do you recall what you put in the Zombii (FF) I got from you? How would I figure it out? I do remember you said they were unlabeled from someone down in SD or something.
I am getting closer to start some more builds and get to next level with testing and socketing components.
Thx,
C

Ps, sorry for OT but is transistor related. ;D

I used this thread a lot to help me build my first testing/debugging rig- thanks.

Fulltone's response was really lacking. I told them I bought it new. They didn't ask for a receipt or extend any good faith to me whatsoever. They can do what they want but in the end the impersonal implication that I could be telling falsehoods is annoying, esp when I told them I have bought and owned at least 7 of their products over the years. Oh well!

They said "Since the OCD is several years old, it's hard for us to know if somebody has worked on the pedal or not since it has left here.  Those may have done here when we updated the pedal.

If the OCD is broken, we can repair it.  If the OCD is working fine, there is nothing we can do.  Also we are not offering pedal modifications/updates/upgrades."

Cool! Also you can also get some paint, wipe it across the letters and wipe excess of and you get color left in letters after.

Sadly, I think I have a bit of "glad for whatever we can get" attitude after so many years of gear coming out and always having some glaring omission or baffling design choice that bums me out. It certainly is no excuse to expect more from manufacturers. I always get my hopes up so high only to be let down in some way. The TimeFactor for example -finally- was a pedal that could speed warp delays/loops like my old RDS-8000 (like tape) and not go all digital crazy, but then the power connector is flaky and there is no MIDI of any use in loop mode. And it put my wallet in a headlock!

I agree the TC box is lacking in some surprising ways- reverse, etc.

What is even worse is when they release a new version of something and add things you love but remove things that were fundamental in liking it in the first place.
Fender has a cheap practice amp with a super intuitive looper. The new model is better in every way- new features, better sound, same price BUT they ruined the one feature I liked best about it and made the looper useless. Grr.

Anyway, it IS very easy to get cranky when it comes to gear makers!

At least there are things that I love fully. My Zombii, Macheen, Voodoo pedal power, '74 Gibson, SansAmp Acoustic DI, Neve preamps,  etc. So nice to have those things you love fully and do everything you want them to and do it well.

I guess I'm in the minority. I don't see that the X4 is a big enough step up from the DL4, and I think TC (who definitely have the ability) could have given their customers more. Maybe I'm just cranky.

Just lost a post using the back button- grrr.

Anyway- had fun tonight learning from a broken night light and solar UV light. Got clips for my DMM probes- sweet! Also have parts for a testing rig, need to plan that out and whether I will need one with LEDs, 9v, and a 3PDT switch like I have seen elsewhere.
I also tried drawing my first basic schematic. The night light pcb has no ground plane and seems to be basically point to point. Was really fun and more challenging than I anticipated at times. Flipping the circuit over was confusing at times trying to id the component then the traces underneath. I found I could hold it up to a light and see through, that was helpful.

Amazing to see wall socket power dealt with by tiny components. How can same socket that can power a 1500 watt heater not just burn up a 2.5watt bulb with only a transistor, photocell, and diode in the way?

-Tranny doc says KGA, why is that? K-collector, G-gate, A-emitter? Is that right?
-DC flows in one direction? How does this work when it reaches an intersection? Flows towards ground?

Anyway- pics:

Last, if anyone can read this old post and help me understand how electricity or DC more specifically acts in a circuit I would be most grateful. The last post gives my suppositions or analogies.

Nice work! Demo?
Also, I miss it when the build doc does not have any commentary on the project- I like some opinion and such. The doc only shows 1 pot wired, was it intended to have all 4 wired in a 1590a?

The separate loop/delay sections w/ independent volumes is cool, and the toggle to get in and out of loop is cool too. Undo on loop is cool. 40 secs full res is cool. BUT, not seeing any reverse or half speed. Pfft. Man, 2 steps forward one step back. Or 2 steps forward, 2 steps back.

I spend an hour or so looking at the pics thread at FSB.org. I do this occasionally. Very inspiring. Sometimes inspiring to build, sometimes inspiring to quit and never build again. The breadth of quality, creativity, and skill displayed there is mind bending. From psychotic epoxied piles of parts to clean, retro, steampunk, wood, handmade, silly, serious, dildos, clear, inverted crosses, toilet seats, on and on. This pedal just fits among the lot as a really great example of unique vision and skilled execution.

SpiceWorks is a monster network, asset, trouble ticket, etc manager I use in my IT work.
http://www.spiceworks.com/

Some cool things are:
-free
-strong user community
-supports user written plugins
-interaction via emails possible (ie, modifying inventory, opening, modding, closing trouble tickets, etc.)
-etc.

Might be worth looking into. You can also make your own categories and groups and rules that get auto applied. So if you sent an email with a string like "47K -1" or "47K set status -1" or whatever you could modify your inventory. Those examples are pure fiction but in practice it works exactly that way.

You make some good points. Surprising no banks or user presets.
As for MIDI, my biggest frustration w Timefactor is MIDI is irrelevant in loop mode which was =almost= a deal breaker for me once I discovered it. If the X4 is able to make a loop conform to incoming MIDI clock or send MIDI clock based on loop you create that will be a plus for me.
Sound quality alone could be worth the upgrade for some, I know when I got the TF I was so relieved to hear things clearly and without all that cloudiness I get from DL4.

But it does have (over the DL4)
Midi in and thru
Toneprints
