Tech Help - Projects Page / Re: Pots & Knobs

They'll be fine, its 5 100ths of a mm.

I've never had any issues with the tayda pots and knobs.

QuoteAt the moment I don't stock these due to demand. However, if it is something that you use a lot of then I can get them in :)

They'd be about 85p - slightly more than the standard pcb mount pots I sell. Delivery time to me would be about 4 days, post Easter. Minimum order quantity for a new line would be 50 pcs - obviously I would offer a discount on this circa 10% on your first order.

I guess if we showed enough demand he'd stock them regularly.

Thanks for that, he's my normal "oh bollocks i need a ... quick" supplier.

I've also asked Tayda if they'll start doing the Dual Gang 100kB right angle PCB mount pots as well, fingers crossed!

We don't use the right angled ones (we use eyelets), but we do get 90% of our pots from Tayda. We've come to the conclusion you can't get them through and keeping orders under £15 for them still to take 4-6 weeks to clear customs is just unworkable. So we ordered £150 worth of gear and had it couriered. That cost us £25 in customs and handling FWIW, but got here MUCH more quickly and I'd rather give the money to a courier that gets their finger out than the PO who take the piss big time with how long they take do do shit. Then they don't even deliver the f**ker to you.

It just means working out what you'll build in the next few months and getting a few more of common values for unexpected builds.

I know what you mean, some Tayda orders take 2 weeks, some 1 month! i think they must ship from various places.

I'm normally the last to defend the PO but, orders from iTead generally arrive 4 days after i receive the shipping notification, no import fees on them and they supposedly ship via the same method  ???

The problem is i can't find anyone in the UK who sells right angle PCB mount pots, there are a few in Europe but again there is the import tax and "handling fees" issue.

I might look at whats involved with buying these in bulk and selling them, i can't be the only person in the UK who wants these pots without having to wait a few weeks and risk import fees.

Certainly don't take my word for it, i'm relatively new to the pedal building game!

I've used the above in a build without any adverse affects, i must've seen it in a schematic somewhere  :-\

As a picture is worth a thousand words...

A question for you UK guys, if you choose the express shipping do you get stung by import tax or handling fees?
I've always used the regular shipping and never had to pay anything, max order has always been less than £100 though.

General Questions / Re: Diago power supplies

I've used the Diago Micropower 9 and particular pedals don't work well with it, SHO variants for example suffer with hum.

I'm hoping some other US suppliers follow suit with Mousers International Shipping to the UK.

Orders over £50, free shipping with import fees pre-paid. Couldn't ask for more than that!

Normally arrives in under 2 days from the point of order as well  :)

Up until reading this thread i've never had any desire to try SMD but now i'm feeling curious.

Is it worth creating a sticky for "order bulkers" i'm forever racking my brain trying to remember all the little bits i could add, hit the order button and then remember something obvious. Could also be useful for new builders as for example, i've been using metal LED Bezels and had never come across the LED Lens' linked earlier in this thread which will work a lot better for some of my builds.

Ahhh, now i understand the severity of your problem  :-\

As much as i love classic cars, using one as a daily driver for me isn't a great idea from past experience.
Its always nice to have something modern and reliable that you can guarantee isn't going to need a heap of work to pass its MOT.

How often do you use the Cayman? If its only when the suns out and its dry for me its an obvious decision.

I'm quite impressed with the new 302 with its fancy cam so you get the classic muscle car lumpy idle.

Wow, all look brilliant.

What paint/powder coat are you using? lovely finish on all three boxes!

Build Reports / Re: Granny's Klon (Sunking)

Wonderful looking pedal, one of my favourite klons yet!

I tried this technique yesterday as was having issues with the contrast after laser engraving. I used a normal wax crayon I had, I imagine most will work just fine.

I heated the enclosure from inside for about 10 seconds with a small blow torch, not focussing the heat too much on one spot. Then attempted to colour in the engraving, the crayon melts and fills it nicely. I put a little excess on and made sure it was all a uniform colour. Popped it in the freezer for 5-10 mins, got it out and rubbed the top with a soft cloth, the friction causes enough heat to remove any excess wax and leaves the engraved area filled.
