Epic build! Totally crazy town. I love it. Just needs a few labels on all those controls :)

Mods / Dry/Wet Blend pot mod for Sharkfin 2015
June 02, 2018, 01:14:23 PM
Hi folks,
In case anyone wanted to add this simple mod to Sharkfin 2015- (Explanation views are from rear of 3PDT BYP Switch & rear of Linear pot)-
Requires disconnection of Bank C entirely from the BYP Switch & reconnection to a 500K Linear pot for Wet/Dry signal 'Blend'.

Disconnected BYP Switch C1 ('R' from PCB) & attached to the terminal 3 (left lug) of the 'Blend' pot.
Disconnected BYP Switch C3 ('I' link from BYP Switch B1) & attached to terminal 1 (right lug) of the 'Blend' pot.
Disconnected BYP Switch C2 (to 'O' on PCB) & attached to terminal 2 (Centre Lug) of the 'Blend' pot.

Values other than 500K will work for the pot.
Full anti-clockwise is 100% Dry signal. Full clockwise is 100% Effect signal.

When effect is not in Bypass, this 'Blend' pot allows the effect signal level to be balanced with the clean signal level & operates across the output jack.
Very handy when pedal is in Sample/Hold mode to add more playing flexibility & bring in a layer of drive among the all encompassing fields of bubbles.

When effect is in Bypass & effect signal is cut from output, 'Blend' pot controls the dry signal level only.

Only negative I've discovered so far is if you have the 'Blend' pot fully clockwise to 100% effect & then you kick into Bypass mode then your signal will be muted as the output is fully slanted by the 'blend' pot to 100% effect output only. I haven't had a good play on it yet but there was a noticeable drop in signal level from dry to effect outputs in the original circuit so this 'Blend' pot may also help to achieve balancing that out.

All Thanx to Charlie at Moosapotamus who came up with this mod a few years back for JD Sleep's FSH-1 version of the Maestro Filter Sample/Hold circuit at GGG.

Cheers :)

Hi there,

Solved the problem  :) Dry/Wet mix pot makes Sample/Hold section a little more useful & flexible when playing & adds a bit of balanced drive to all the random octave bubbles.
Details posted in forum in Mod section.

Cheers

I had a problem with a 1590DD I bought from Pedal Parts too but only with a 16mm Alpha pot from Taiwan. It had a raised collar below the thread & it stopped it protruding far enough through to get the washer & nut on. Solved problem by drilling another hole on the back side of the case to fit the collar in. Never expected that to be a problem & was very surprised. The other 16mm pots that I used in the project, from a different manufacturer, only just fitted through with just enough thread to get them tight. The nuts were flush with the top of the thread. Yes, very tight. Maybe 1590DD base is a little too thick as you say.

:) Hi folks. Very new here so sorry if this question has already been covered previously. Not sure how to find it at this early stage.
I just finished Sharkfin 2015. Great PCB from MadBean & great fun. Have no problems with it & worked fine straight off. No unwanted noises & very quiet in bypass too :)
I just need a little help with a mod & was wondering if anyone has put a Wet/Dry mix pot on their build of Sharkfin 2015 & where they connected to the circuit?
I'm not sure if I have to drop one of the switches from the 3PDT Bypass Switch to the output & replace it with a pot or whether it's a little more or less complex than that.
I'm guessing a Linear pot of about 500K would be ok but the Bypass Switch is freaking me out a little & I could do with a little guidance as to where & how I should wire the Linear pot in & also confirm a useful value for it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks  :)
