Build Reports / Re: BJF/Moodysounds Fuzzes!
May 04, 2019, 09:18:44 PM
Nice builds!  I also made those using the Tagboard forum layouts.  Don't miss out on all the stuff that doesn't hit the main page..

I also used GT404's and built the "109 Face" to complete the set.   Those four fuzzes are Bjorn's reinterpretations of  Tone Benders mki mkii and silicon and germanium Fuzz Faces. They are excellent and sound great  with minimal adjusting.

Which parts are missing on your board?  I'm almost done with one.   I won't be using the other board for switching, but I'll just install the power components, which you will need.  I

"POWER: ... negative-tip 9V to 15V power supply or 9V battery"

Please tell us how it works, as I have one I'm almost done with.

aion, I've just begun rehousing a BOSS pedal and instead of converting to true bypass, like I've done in the past, I  hoped to keep the buffers and just replace the switch.  So far it's worked fine, even when i tried to "trick" it by pushing softly.  It hasn't been properly road tested yet so am I just lucky right now?  Has anyone else rehoused a silmiar Boss, Ibanez etc, but not converted to true bypass?

What's your opinion of the effect?  How well does it track for you?  I'd like to build one too.

Nice job, fair.child. That's such a nasty sounding fuzz.   I haven't housed the one I built using the PCB I got from you yet, but plan on a 1590BB, so I used a larger transformer.  Here is the little board I made for the 42TM018.

Yes, my build was a Flesh Head, which is a TB MKii with fuzz hardwired at max.  The first charge pump  made a faint squeal, the second was very loud. The third was silent.

I built the same project yesterday that also whined, but swapping the charge pump solved it. You say you used a battery, but it still passed through the voltage inverter section to make negative ground, right?

VFE Projects / Re: VFE Yodeler Workup

Springboard is a Reverb with active EQ, Yodeler is a delay + reverb. Both use a Belton brick.
I built the Yodeler with some help from fair.child.

You can also substitute many parts. There are guides for changing the value of pots, and you can combine capacitors and resistors in series or parallel to make up whatever value you need.

Many of the diodes and Op Amps and interchangeable, and good enough to test if your project is working.

There's a Doom/Core pack which is half sludgy doom, half busier hardcore.  In Superior, you can easily make loops less "busy", or  export to your DAW and mute things.

First thing I would do is try the stuff you already have at half tempo and select some roomy sounds. What libraries do you have? You may be able to stack them to make huge sounding custom kits.

Good idea to use the rotary switch.  Is "bite" like the Ruetz mod on rats?  How effective is it? Do you notice anything when in "forbidden" mode?

I also settled on 81/60 after months of swapping them around, along with an 85 that didn't work for me.  It depends on your style, but  I use the 81 for my metal riffs, and the 60 for cleans, or slow rock/fuzzy stuff.
I tried the 18v mod, but the headroom improvement is more noticeable for bassists.

VFE Projects / Re: VFE Switching Board J175
July 05, 2018, 01:58:51 PM
I once built a noise gate that asked for a J177 through hole, which is obsolete and harder to get than the J175.  I ended up using an smd version of the  J177 with an adapter board.  I also bought the J175 you linked since it was recommended as a substitute, and it worked just as well- in that circuit at least.

Hmm... should I plan for #2 Mega Pedal?

#2 mega pedal should be the fuzzes and other prototypes you didn't use with the classic 6 control layout.  You can even use the alternate layout "switch" version of the Mobius Strip and Yodeler so it's not just drives. Instead of sci fi art, use fantasy monsters.

#3 "mini" mega pedal can be with the newer 5 control layouts :-)
