Open Discussion / analog synth project?
May 12, 2015, 11:24:10 AM
Hi guys,
So currently i'm looking for a particular sound and having a couple ideas. I'm thinking of getting a ehx random tone generator, and connect it to my guitar pedals to create some space sounds and psychedelic/experimental noise, but i'm thinking if it wasn't possible to have some kind of analog synth in front of it and before my pedals, to mess with oscilators and pitch and everything a normal analog synth would have, in order to have a "synth in loop" (if that even makes sense). Is there some kind of project that matches what i'm trying to ask for?

Best regards

So guys, i made it work, i had the transistors mirrored, because i'm soldering the parts on the oposite side of the vero where the copper is, and made a mistake with the trannies positions, had to desolder and solder them correctly. Now it works, but after a few minutes, or even a couple seconds, it suddenly stops working, like if something shorted, but i don't make any movement at all. If i leave it alone, for a bit, and start it again, it works, but stops again after a minute or so. Is this a sign of what? Any clues?

Any thoughts guys?

I've already checked a lot, but i guess it's never enough! The thing is, there's a couple people experiencing the same issues that i am, and so i started to think it was a layout error, but since you didn't had this issues that wouldn't make sense. Also, what would be the right voltages i should have on the transistors? Because i measured them and not even one was having more than 8v in the C leg, is that normal?

Interesting. I don't recall any issues or fixes I had to make with that one but then again it was a few years back. It does remind me how much I now hate vero though  :)
This was my first vero, and i really don't think i want to get back to it, the pots are a pain to solder, a huge mess, and so much cable wasted. I think we both hate it!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Musket Fuzz clone issues
April 30, 2015, 07:48:44 PM
Hi guys,
I'm working on a Musket fuzz clone from Blackout effects, and i'm experiencing a couple issues:
- the tone pot has a big volume drop as soon as i start to roll it clockwise
- the effect seems to be lacking gain, a lot of gain, it's way less powerfull than the original, and if the fuzz and the pre-amp are at their lowest setting, i get almost no volume at all, i have to turn them way more to get acceptable volume.
I've asked another member here that build the same layout, and he didn't get this kind of problems. I suspect it could be related to the active parts, the transistors for instance, not getting enough voltage.

I'm doing this on veroboard, and the layout is the one that's attached here.
So, any help here guys? I'm doing this for a person, and i wasn't expecting to get this kind of problems at all.

Thank you and best regards

Hi, i've just finished a musket i'm building for a guy, one from the same layout you have, i came across that site. The thing is, i hear a volume drop as soon as i start to roll the tone knob, and i also find it to lack gain, the original seems more powerfull. Did yours had those issues?

Wow old thread resurrected. No that pedal had tons of gain and output, tone controls worked great as well. Has to be an error on your end. Post up in troubleshoot section and maybe we can get it sorted.

Ohh sorry, i just noticed when this thread's last post was made, my bad! I noticed more people in the comments of the website where that layout is, complaining about the same issues but no solution, so you could have had the same problems and fixed them or something similar. Thanks for the reply.

Open Discussion / Re: Tube Works RT-2100 Mosvalve?

I think the tubes are jj replacements that the owner asked to be installed, so regarding bad or unknown tubes, i think there won't be a problem.

Open Discussion / Tube Works RT-2100 Mosvalve?
April 29, 2015, 01:38:25 PM
Hi guys,
So i've been looking for good deals in the used market around here, nationaly, and i came across this amp, a Tube works rt-2100 mosvalve 2x12, for a what seems a really good price, and i wanted to know if you guys knew anything about them, and also some feedback if you can give me some. The amp is listed here, but it's in portuguese so, it doesn't help much http://www.custojusto.pt/lisboa/instrumentos-musicais/tube-works-rt-2100-mosvalve-2x12-c-footswitch--16240292 it's selling for 290€ which this days is almost the same in dollars, due to the currency, is it too much for it, or is it a good price, since i've never seen it anywhere. So, any thoughts about it? I'm most interested in the cleans, so does this amp is any good in that subject?

Best regards

Any clues of what might be causing it?

The weirdest thing in this situation, is that it has been working normally for months, and then suddenly it stopped working, so i'm thinking something broke or burned there, that is the only explanation that i can think of.

Do you have an external LED indicator for the LFO? If so, try shorting the + side of the LED to the - side to short the 4k7 resistor to ground. Does that start the lamp?

If your talking about the rate led, i have one, but i tried that and it didn't change anything, the bypass led didn't change anything by doing that either, in case i was misunderstanding your indications.

Sorry, I meant check the 18v reading on the second 1n5817 diode. 9v on pin8 is correct. But, since you are reading 9v on pin8 and 15 on the regulator then the voltages are fine. Don't worry about the thing with touching the DMM to pin1...probably just created a voltage divider with the DMM or something.

Which version is this...the 2015 or the one before?

Okay then. I think it's the previous version, before you made those layout changes on the last.

Thanks for the answer Brian. So i checked the voltages, with the pinout of the image i attached, if it is correct, then Pin 8 has only 9v. I also noticed something strange that maybe is normal, which was when i tried to measure the voltage of pin 1, the lamp turned off, and it gave me 0,9v. The regulator is fine, 15v. I also tried to drain the caps, as you suggested, and if i have done it right, it didn't help, i used a short wire, and touched each lead with the other end touching ground, i didn't solder. So, any suspects?
